Anyone else see this story? RMU was trailing 16-3 after 4 innings v. Youngstown St. and then refused to take the field for the 5th (pitcher was tired according to the RMU coach). Game ended in a 7-0 forfeit, all stats erased. Unbelievable. RMU's coach received a two game suspension, WAY too light in my opinion. Banned for life would have been a good start.

Wow, DD has been to the RMU camps and I always thought it was a stand up program. HC didn't seem like that type of Coach. That there just ain't right, said in my Larry the cable guy voice.

Perhaps the most irritating part of the story was this:

Coleman, who also serves as RMU’s Athletic Director, declined to comment

Declined to comment? You're the head coach AND athletic director and you decline to comment? Gutless.

One of my best friends dd plays there, will have to ask him about this. I know this is not the kind of thing you want to see but RMU softball is better known for their academics. They claim the highest gpa in D1 softball. So while this seems like such a horrible thing I'm sure the girls are much more concerned about their grades than finishing a blowout game. imo

So they only had one pitcher? Maybe she pitched all the first game as well? Plus I guess they switch home teams during a double header...it said four innings were complete if they were visitors they would they even have to pitch, hard to believe no matter how tired there was not one girl on the team who could throw one inning, you would think one of the other girls would speak up...unless of course he messed the lineup card up and his other pitcher was not eligible but you would assume a 20+ yr coach would have that part down pat.

He has been there since 1991 and usually in this type of articles they bring up pass violations. 2 game suspension sounds right to me.

The AD should appeal the suspension.

I think Robert Morris had only one pitcher available, and she's not mainly a pitcher, just all they had.

There are only three pitchers on the roster. Their #1 pitcher did not play in either Youngstown State game, so I assume she was injured on unavailable for some other reason. The #3 pitcher has not pitched or played in over a month. I assume the same for her.

That leaves Haileigh Stocks, their #2 pitcher, who is really more of an infielder/hitter who pitches for lack of depth at the position. She went 7 in Game 1, then 4 in Game 2, and the coach - who is a medical doctor, fwiw - decides she's had enough. She'd given up 16 runs in the second game, and there was nobody to bail her out.

Was it a good decision? No.

But I think coach was between a rock and a hard place. If he had it to do again, maybe he chooses differently. He probably didn't think about the decision's impact on the other team's stats or his own.

I wouldn't call him or his team a quitter. Just a tough situation.

You would think before the trip you had to figure it was a possibility...once he was down to one pitcher before leaving you would think he asked for an emergency pitching volunteer. What if the first pitch of the first game someone hits a ball off her knee and she can't pitch?

but we are not doing better our team has one pitcher period no back up and no emergency pitcher but we are talking HS JV not D1!!
