NCAA rules say equipment used in competition must be available to the general public.

My 50-foot long, retractable on demand cleat extensions will be available to the general base-stealing public very shortly as patent issues are nearly resolved. I can confidently predict that all existing NCAA stolen base records will be toast. And, yes, there will be a DFP discount.

Big deal, our patent pending knee flaps raise your knee up to the level of your waist those used with our patent pending armpit extensions change the strike zone so that anything but a meatball down the middle is a ball.

C'mon man, you are making a mockery of the game.

Kangaroos may be extinct by the time we outfit the whole team but I think the new gloves are gonna work out really well!

Just heard that NCAA has reversed themselves and the rules committe voted unanimously that even though the rules do not define what a pitching toe is, this toe flap does not meet the intent of maintaning the integrity of the game through individual player skill.

Like I posted previously, this is the section that made the flap illegal from the beginning:

3.1 All Equipment
3.1.1 All equipment used in intercollegiate competition should be of a nature
commonly available to the general public through retailers.

Not exactly. Read the NCAA statement.

The problem is, what they were using is commonly available to the general public through retailers. It was nothing more than a shoe inner sole they taped to the front of the shoe. The NCAA rule book is gigantic because they try to cover every possible scenario and define everything. The problem is, the more ironclad you try to make something, the more holes you leave to try and punch in it which is exactly what happened in this case. The coach caught onto the fact that the rule allows for a pitching toe to be attached to the shoe, but does not define exactly what a pitching toe is. It was completely obvious this was nothing but an attempt to circumvent the pitching rules on leaping and common sense should have made it illegal from the beginning. Both ASA and FED immediately came out with statements making it illegal within days of it happening.

I didnt see the game, but I guess she did pitch against Arizona yesterday and got rocked. From what was posted, the flap was gone but she supposedly had on a much larger right shoe. Again, I did not see the game and do not know if this is true or not, other than Arizona did beat them pretty bad.

"but she supposedly had on a much larger right shoe."

Good grief. This is going to set me off, for the whole day. I will be yelling at 12YOs for not dragging their toe. :)

The intent of this rule is to prevent teams from having exclusive access to a product/technology that would give them a competitive advantage.
