Stealing this from UCS. The article below is about college baseball but obviously it pertains to softball as well. Softball is a warm weather sport. The season MUST be changed to level the playing field. I hope this gains traction!!! I haven't been this excited about anything, ever (mild exaggeration).

One team plays 40 home games. Another team plays 4. In what other sport would that type of disparity be tolerated? In what universe would that be considered fair?

What does your dd think? She goes to ND classes August through May, and softball goes through July?

sounds like a great year to me!
Haha. Me also. You know here we have summer school ball, that means 8:00am practice everyday, game days 7:00 am, through July.

NO travel ball. 2 weeks between school ball and next school year to have a family vacation. Is what it is and no complaints, just the facts.

No boating, beach, fishing, biking, vacation, MANY coaches have a no swimming pool rule.

We spent a small fortune on a swimming pool before DD went to travel. I've been in it 3 times in 2 years. At least the ducks like it.
I'm all in on this proposal! I was ticked at the cages because a baseball team rented every cage for 2 hours. Tough when there's snow on the ground and tryouts in a few days!

Yes, I do think ideal is to move south. Softball in 30 degree weather sucks.
HS not college like original topic...the girls still love it, but everyday morning practice, several day a week late night games, start practice January plus travel ball every weekend in spring, only oppurtunity for college exposure in fall....we have the best players in the country that never get seen by a college coach. A few weeks of the year become a slight burnout.

Playing into July would force every college baseball and softball player to attend summer school. Which may not be a bad things, but something to consider, especially for any player who tried to work summer jobs for extra money.

You would be trading 1 inconvenience for another. JAD, would you like to tell them how hot it is in the south in July? What is the humidity? You can dress warm for the cold but those 100 degree days with 90% humidity will literally kill you. There is no escaping the heat. Southerners are used to it but the northern teams would find it difficult I think.

Not sure I understand. We all have dds who play all summer long in the heat, and with travel ball tournaments sometimes they play 4 or 5 games a day. But it's too hot for college players to play one game? And many of those games could be scheduled at night. Just seems to be a strange argument given that baseball and softball are summer sports and always have been.
