Chipola College’s Jessica Elliott is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Elliott, a sophomore from Orlando, Fla., went 2-0 with one save and a 0.00 ERA in three appearances during the voting period. Elliott enjoyed two solid bookend outings – a complete-game, 12-strikeout effort vs. Gulf Coast State on March 24 and a two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts against nationally-ranked Tallahassee three days later. In between, she picked up the save in game two vs. Gulf Coast State. For the week, Elliott tallied 14.2 innings in the circle and allowed only three hits and one unearned run while walking only two and striking out 27.

Jessica is having a great season! It shows a person can overcome a lot including one particular parent's genetics. LOL!

Thanks. Jake and her Chipola teammate Madison Ragan are certainly not typical with respect to velocity. :)

I can just imagine what it looks like for some of the girls who are used to the speeds referenced in the other thread facing your DD. The closest analogy that comes to mind is an A-ball travel pitcher throwing to rec girls.

The velocity is certainly a plus, but it is her accuracy and movement that is primarily responsible for the results. She often backs down to the 65-66mph range to get the most movement and control then steps on the gas when needed.

Congragulations Riseball! I love hearing sucess stories from other parents. Even more so when there's press clippings to back it up!
