I think you don't do anything because more than likely the thought in their minds when then sent the text was that you guys had success, no need to add anything. Obviously they need to leave the coaching and all that to the coaches, but I think it may have been somewhat well intentioned however misguided it was. I would just let it slide and contact the parents of the girls you were hoping to see and inquire as to whether they have found a new team and possibly set up some private tryouts.

I must be a bad person, but my immediate thought was that the parents didn't want any new girls to take a roster spot or playing time from their DD. I like how you think more.

Coach, were the parents told if their girls were safe? In some situations/teams all girls on the team are safe, but in some they are not.

Parents were not told they were "safe". Girls were told we would be happy to continue with this group (10 at that point), but we needed to add a pitcher and a catcher.

The text that went out (from the parent) said that we were all set for infielders. The DD in this case is an infielder who spent some time on the bench last summer due to performance issues.

In other words - you are not a bad person - I think this text was only sent to protect his DD's interests.

Back on the dirt...
Any of the above possible reasons for the text could have taken place. I have my thoughts but it doesnt matter now because it has happened.

What I would do is send out a message that addresses the text. Something along the lines of " It has gotten back to the coaching staff that some messages were sent out to prospective players that our team was locked up and did not need additional players. Please, in the future either ask a coach or say I am not sure and I'll get back with you." Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

If you know who it was, then Id probably ask head on and handle it. They could be a cancer as stated above.

Good luck!

That wasn't well intentioned. That was eliminating competition for their DDs spots. No parent does that for any reason other then protecting their dd.

I wouldn't let it slide, parents know the numbers these were likely parents of players who would be on the cusp if there were cuts to make. I would hold some private tryouts and replace these kids ASAP. This isn't the first time and it wont be the last time these parents meddled in team affairs, I can dang near guarantee that.

Maybe I'm the dope. I always want great talent on my DD's team, even at her position. Pushing her is my dream.

Is the parent in question the parent of a pitcher, catcher, or player whose position is tenuous? Since you specifically told the parents you needed a pitcher and catcher it seems unlikely this was purely innocent. But I will say that anyone local who has FB or the internet surely knows our team would like to add a player for spring. I publicize it like crazy.
