Anyone use In Motion Playbook? I'm fairly new to coaching and helping coach my daughter's team in 10u rec ball. This seems like it might be a good visual tool for the girls to understand what to do and for me to also learn. Is there something else I should consider?

Didn’t know something like this existed - looks like it could be useful, and easier to understand than trying to draw a bunch of arrows on a whiteboard.

Not a cheap app - but could be a big timesaver.

It might be helpful for you to learn, but I've found that teaching young players is best if they are actually going through the motions themselves. Translating what they see to what they do can get a little wonky, especially when we are talking about kids in the early stages of learning the game.

I agree with most of the initial reactions - but i think the value would come from the initial “show them” - to let them see how it’s all supposed to flow. Picture and a 1,000 words thing.

Show them the animation, then send them out to the field (this would be a good place to use a mini-field to cut down on distances during initial walk-throughs).

When teaching any sort of defensive plays like these, you’re already starting with a few strikes against you. They’re young - still learning the basics of the game; and it’s 10U, so you’re (hopefully) still trying to teach them ALL the positions and not pigeonhole them as only an OF, or only 1B.

I should stop typing before I convince myself to take off the rose-colored glasses that have allowed me to believe we’re making a difference as coaches. :)

Definitely not trying to make them sit down and study all the plays. I still have so much to learn so I'm leaning towards this as a tool to make sure I don't tell them the wrong way, whether I use this to show them or if I just show them on the field. Would be nice also to show them no matter what the play everybody should be doing something. Still struggle with many of them standing around if the ball isn't hit to them. Is there another resource that new coaches can use to learn defensive plays?
