Organization is forming a new team at the 9U (10U Futures) level. Tryouts have already been held, but a new HC has not been selected yet. Is this typical?

Disclaimer - I don't know if the final player selection will be done AFTER the HC is selected - so maybe the HC would still have a final say?

It is not ideal and really only the 'we get to pick the best' or 'we are the only decent option' organizations can really get away with it and still field a good team. It is also often a tactic used to see if they can get the borderline players to hang around a little longer as they see if the first choice players for the 'A' team commit to the org or not. If some don't commit, the hope is the borderline selections are around for a roster offer.

We have a lot of options locally, so when we tried to do it because we had a bigger than expected turn out for tryouts, most players just went elsewhere and joined teams that already had everything in place. What was still left over was not good.

I once had one org tell me they would select the team and coach within the org that they thought would be best (not sure for who - probably the org). I just laughed at them and went and found something better.

I'm curious what a HC's final say will be if he never saw the try outs.

This seems quite odd to me, but I've only been around the block once.

Not sure - maybe be given the evaluation sheets with the scores and comments on them?
