I am cleaning out my garage and we have a lot of junk. In doing so, I came across BB's HS equipment bag. I was amazed at what I found. 2 sets of Palm-Guard Batting gloves. 2 mouth guards, 4 softballs, a huge bag of health snacks (this bag was putrid), A clothing bag for wet clothes, her ear headband she wore when it was so cold, a spin right spinner for pitching, a striped warm-up ball, ... It was pretty neat looking at this stuff.
As many of you know, I coached BB in HS. So, I went to open those smaller pockets in the front. Wow! She had her goals written down. She achieved all of them but a sectional and state championship. She had every handout and had notes written on them. I didn't know she did that. I knew she was motivated but she had notes blaming herself for this or that loss and telling herself she has to be better. She even had one note upset that she didn't hit a home run instead of a double and we lost. Pitcher's name and all are contained in that note. I'm really proud of her. Regarding the handouts, here is a brief list of what they were:
"Now that you have made the team" - This is a list of 31 things that I expected from my players. I've posted it here before.
"What to carry in your bag." - This is a simple list of 12 things you have to have in your bag and then another list of cold weather stuff including those ear muffs.
"Everyday Practice - Every Day" - This list contains 12 guidelines for their lives and playing ball. For example, one is, "Show me your friends and I'll show you your future." It outlines the choices people make due to peer pressure. It talks about how one player's choices can hurt the team. Another item contained is, "If you are 5 minutes early, you are 10 minutes late. I can't believe that I included, "Attendance is mandatory." LOL
Again, it was pretty neat seeing this stuff. BB is coming over tomorrow after her TB team practices to do laundry. I can't wait to show her some of this stuff.
