Actually it is U10 in Canada....and the rest of the world. We can always tell the Americans :D

I didn't think I was completely crazy. =)

#2, I have always done it manually. Just when you think you have it figured out, some kid is sick or has a dance recital and you have to adjust on the fly anyway. At U10 I tried to have kids play the same position for 2 innings in a row then rotate.

#3, That is a tough one. Some kids are shy. Some don't know what to say. My DD can be a quiet one. She once told me she's afraid to say the wrong # of outs or what base to throw to.

One girl at U10 was very knowledgable about the game and always talking on the field. Some of the other girls thought she was being bossy - trying to tell them what to do. I finally offered rewards to those who talked on the field. Popsicles/gum/fruit rollups. Nothing big but it helped a little.

#2 - I prefer to go in with a plan and adjust that on the fly, tools can help. But what I tried in the last game did not work so back to manually. Though it served partially purpose of a wake up call.

#3 - I like bribes, I'm okay with bribery to get them speaking. I have been starting communication drills as well.

This is a thing that's going to bother me a lot, but "U10" should mean "Under 10," which should be (is?) different than "10U," which is "10 and Under."

So are we even talking about the same thing?

U10 means "Under 10" here, you can't be older than 9 Dec 31st if I recall. You can turn 10 during the season, but you move to U12 for the next year. My Google of 10U seems to indicate you are correct and it's you can't be older than 10 Dec 31st.

Interesting!

I don't think that makes a huge difference for the question here (having 10-year-olds or not doesn't change much in this case, probably), but I can see how some might be confused if they're assuming certain ages are/are not part of the discussion.

You learn something new every day around here.

There was a team out of Windsor that would cross the border to play in a travel league when my dd was 10U. I didn't realize we were playing kids a year younger.

It was one of the best organization, when my dd was 8 we went to Canada to play them and they were so appreciative we came to them, they bought our girls pizza and shared watermelon, took group pictures...
