Thanks for all the input guys. She seems to be able to throw them out at 2nd more often then 3rd which doesn't make sense to me. The faster and more clever girls are coached to draw the throw and try to create an error knowing it is going to take some very quick transfers to get her out back at 2nd base. So with a crafty runner on 2nd we don't want to throw it to 3rd every pitch. I think there is a momentary pause of "I don't think she really going" to "Oh! Crap she is going." We are going to work on a play when we believe baserunner is trying to draw a throw. The SS will sort of shadow base runner and catcher will throw directly at the base runner/SS and try to freeze her.

My DD lets the situation dictate what she does - batter location, pitch location. She works on everything so she has the tools she needs - in front, behind, feet, knees.

Super impressive! Those are some big 10u girls! I notice some of the batters instinctively get out of your DD's way. Can you address the "drawing the throw" situation and how you handled it at 10u level?

I coach my girls step behind when stealing third and step on homewhen leading on third. If the batter moves in any situation they are coached to tap them withe glove on the trow to iniate contact.

This is not 10U. It's 14U TB. My DD is 13yo, and catcher has been her primary position since she was 9.

What do you mean by "'drawing the throw' situation"?

Sorry. I missed the joke.

I haven't really come across the situation you describe. I would instruct my C and 3B to focus on just making a clean throw and catch, and not worry about trying to get the runner out at 2B unless you have a clear and easy play because of a running mistake. Keeping a runner who is already at 2B, still at 2B, is just fine with me. I certainly wouldn't have the C throwing to 3B on every pitch. A good fake throw can be useful (these need practice to be effective). Having the C hold the ball and run a few steps towards the runner can also work. A quick snap back to P will force the runner to make a decision one way or another, and they may find themselves trapped in an easy pick-off situation. Vigilance on everyone's part is important.

As mentioned you need to work on sharp throws back to the pitcher, and a relay to the bag if needed. If the offense sees lazy throws they are going to capitalize on it. Quick hands is a good warm up drill we use everyday to help are girls learn to be quick qith receive and transfer.
