More importantly it definitly not the coach's job to go out of his/her way to explain every decision to players/parents.
I don't entirely agree with this. I almost always tell my players why I'm doing something if it's different from what I usually do. I think that communication is important.
That doesn't mean I sit down with every player and explain why she's in her particular spot in the order every game, but if I'm dropping someone or changing something drastically, I'll tell them why. Sometimes it's "you've been struggling lately" and sometimes it's just "I want to try something different today." But when a girl who tends to bat 2 is batting 9 one day, I feel that if I don't talk to her, she's going to be wondering if she's being punished, if she did something wrong, etc. Cuts out a lot of potential issues when you just talk to them.
Of course, all that may not really matter for 10u.
