Asked to coach a 12u travel team...they wanted to know what they should pay me....so, my question is for you TB coaches, what do you get paid or how much should I say...They'll pay me for practices and tournaments...appreciate any help or advice on this.

All I can offer is some pretty vague details. What I do know is that paid travel ball coaches within my daughter's organization make between $3,000 - $30,000 + hotels and expenses. The coaches on the higher end certainly don't have daughters on the team, they also have very extensive softball backgrounds.

No daughter on the team...I am an outsider with lots of coaching experience and they were looking for a coach for their organization

Depending on your experience you should estimate a cost based on looking for approximately $30-$100 per hour you are investing during the week and some sort of set price + expenses for weekend tournament. Plus 10% so you are padding the cost a little bit.

So you would present a $$$ amount + expenses (hotels, travel expenses, balls, nets, equipment)

I got some grief from the board in asking for it, as they felt rates were high, but I have a couple of professional coaches at 12U and 14U at around 2400$ annual for a Class B/C program in New England. Job Description:

Conduct 2-3 tryouts, formulate teams, notify and manage parents
Plan tournament/league schedules for Fall, Spring, Summer
Host at least 1 practice per week in season
Host at least 1 practice session per week for about 10 weeks during the winter, spring & summer
Coach games (typically about 8 tournaments, plus maybe 2-3 scrimmages) - travel typically 45-90 minutes away, no overnight

Don't know why people think that is expensive...go ahead a calculate the hours my guess is about $5 an hour or less depending how much you really put into it...not exactly a kings ransom

The usual rate in my area is $4K for a full time A level head coach plus hotels, expenses and gas when going out of town. For that you're doing everything for the team from uniforms, practices, tournaments and anything else related to the team starting at tryouts and ending with the last game of the year. I'll spend more time on the off-field necessities than on the field. That's the stuff the parents never see. They think all tournaments, practices and other things take care of themselves.
