If he is an 8u coach I would guess he doesn't have too much experience coaching softball or youngsters. One of the worst things at a practice is players standing around. We do a lot of station work and spend very little time with the whole team at any one thing other than if we are doing infield situations. Does he have assistant coaches or parents willing to help out? If I were you I would approach him and ask if he needs help to make practices more efficient. Hopefully he will be receptive to a conversation and use it to his advantage other than an insult to his coaching abilities. I am not a huge ego guy and take suggestions regularly. I also use this board for a lot of suggestions so all you coaches keep posting your experiences.

Wasn't going to post on this anymore but since it has come back to the top again I will. We got together for lunch on New Years Eve to discuss our indoor practices that were about to start. I ask in a private text if we could have a discussion about a few concerns and if he was open to some ideas for practice. He said absolutely. We met for about 2 hours, I really stressed how much I felt we could improve on keeping the team moving and engaged. He agreed, we tossed some ideas for practice around. We practice 2 nights one week and 1 night on alternating weeks, that's what was available. Sunday is 1hr and Friday is 1 1/2. So far we have not had a moment of downtime except for water breaks. We've been using some of the drills that we picked up from the Tony Medina clinic that most of team attended along with a lot of base running drills. After every practice the girls are sweating and tired and loving it. For the first time ever my daughter is asking when our next practice is and she is disappointed when it is the week we don't have Friday practice. Coach and I actually talked yesterday about tonights practice because he was wanting some ideas to change it up and not become boring for the girls. This has really been an awesome change for the team and everyone seems reinvigorated after our 2 month break. Like I said before, he is a really good guy but you have to approach him the right way. He basically runs the business he works for and is very much an in charge type of guy for lack of a better term.

That's cool, glad it worked out for you. There is nothing better than having your kid excited about learning and working out. Good luck this season.
