How many coaches have coached a varsity level team and had only one pitcher due to injuries or just plain lack of pitchers? Advice on dealing with that....just found out 1 pitcher is moving and another is injured so there we are now....1 pitcher

You can get away with 1 pitcher in HS because they usually only play one game per day. In GA our playoff system has double headers, but all of our regular season games are one per day, twice a week (Tuesday and Thursday). My DD pitched just about every game during her HS career and the only games she did not pitch were against weaker opponents where the coach gave younger pitchers a chance to get some experience.

Wearing out a pitcher with a couple games can be a good workout, but keeping her in a scenario that would injure her would certainly be reason for concern.

Crash development my friend, crash development. View it as a perfect opportunity, not a predicament. If your season begins is Spring, you've got plenty of time to teach a couple of kids how to throw strikes. It's a good start on your pitching program, and you may even end up conference champs, or better next year!

Or you can do a fundraiser and pick up a sweet wig at Goodwill...for Hillhouse! Yikes :D

That was mostly my situation this year. I did have another girl who pitched two games when my one-and-only was injured (unrelated to pitching), but she's not a pitcher by any means.

The worst part was just not being able to schedule as many games as I wanted because I didn't want to overwork her. And, of course, if she had been hurt longer (she was out 2 weeks, but with terrible weather that meant only 2 games), the whole season would've been pretty rough.

This year I have a new pitcher I'm developing who I hope will be ready to be our #1, and another girl who I can have pitch if absolutely necessary. There are a couple others who want to learn, and I'll probably spend some time teaching them just in case.
