Wanted to get opinions on where your SS sets up on the 2nd base bag for a throw down on a steal attempt? We currently have her set up in front of the corner of the bag that's closest to the pitcher. She has to swing tag, I can see where a good hook slide would get away from her reach, so looking for options.

I think some techniques will vary but I can promise you much more important than where she sets up is how/where she catches the throw...you must impress upon any player at 2B and SS that there job it to catch the ball as close to the bag as possible ideally there is no "swing" to the bag it is "down" to the bag

Front of the bag and slam your right knee to the ground to tag or straddle the bag and straight down. Both work, I personally like standing at the front corner and slamming the knee. I think it helps the SS catch the throw IMO. You must let the ball travel as stated above.

Drove my catcher DD crazy when she would make a throw to second that would have bounced a little short of the bag and the SS and 2B would jump off the bag to catch the throw on a fly. She moved on to a better team after 2 months. I blamed that on lousy coaching, middle infielders were never taught properly.

Yesterday DD was playing SS on steal, throw was off towards 1st base side. She ended up in basepath. Ball went off her glove and she missed it.

Runner not sliding for some reason ran into DD, I would not be upset if someone described it as DD running into baserunner.

I am not sure what the umpire would have called if DD caught it but was quick with an obstruction call on DD.

Where the SS sets up does not matter if the throw is off line. In a perfect world, the SS receives the throw and applies the tag without having to sweep, but regardless the SS needs to set up where she can adjust to the throw. Catcher should throw to a spot and expect the SS to get there. If she waits for the SS to give her a target before she throws she will never throw anyone out, unless they trip over their shoelaces and fall once or twice before getting there.

I agree with the right knee down, and receiving the ball, NOT catching it like a first baseman. If the throw is off and toward (2nd ) I teach my (ss) to stay out of the base path and let the 2nd get the throw.

If the throw is off to the 2B side and not going to beat the runner the SS should step in front of the baseline and basically cut off the throw; if the throw looks like it might beat the runner stepping in front of the baseline and swiping back towards the base is OK; as a rule I don't like the SS not catching the ball for any reason other than she can't physically get to it because it could get by the backup or bounce off the runner either resulting in an extra base.

I see what you are saying, and I can agree, in front of the base line. BUT cutting in front of the runner to receive the ball is an obstruction waiting to happen. We practice throws so the girls know where to be, if throw gets by ss. We haven't yet given up a base, actually thrown a few out. Most base runners, over run, or get to aggressive.
