wasnt really questioning playing some fall tournaments, just the timing of the first one really. they have only had like 3 practices, only one with all the girls, and looking like at most 3 more (including one night before tournament). I guess they are using this first tournament mainly for evaluation, which does make sense. just hoping they do not get down/discouraged if it does not go well.

thanks for the feedback!

I started a 10u team this fall and only had maybe 4 or so practices on a real field before we played. Only a couple with everyone there. I only have three that had ever been in a tournament and 7 fresh from only rec league. I entered one early as a coach to get our feet wet, show the girls this is not rec league and to see the players from the "there for fun" girls. I hoped to win one pool game at most. I did spend what time I had at practice on getting the easy outs on defense and batting. We tied our first pool game. Which I thought was a success to accomplish no matter what happened the rest of the day. Then won our first bracket game and finished 3 in the tournament. Now every girl is excited and putting in extra work at home. Parents new to tournament play are hooked. And have added another tournament to our schedule. You never know what will happen until you put them on the field. My ultimate thought about a tournament very early was if we got beat bad and the girls got down on it and wanted to give up instead of fight that honestly we were probably not going to win much no matter how many practices we had.
