When I coached rec ball I read up on Gatorade and how much it sucked for youth athletes. For any of you coaches that dont know the history of Gatorade and how bad it is for your athletes here's a short clip that just came up. Funny and silly at times but gets to the point .

****Be warned he does use explicit language in video ******

That was funny....his side burns were a bit distracting but funny none the less! I'm always amazed by the parents and coaches who brag about getting their kid pumped up for a game with this stuff or the kid with the grande size jug of it at every practice.

I am glad my kids know simple water is the best thing to drink during a practice or a game. I just wish they didn't think of Gatorade as being so cool.

Gatorade is no different than just drinking soda. Chocolate milk is far far better and everyone loves it.

Hydration on game day is severely overrated. Hydration starts days before

...Hydration on game day is severely overrated. Hydration starts days before

Elite level athletes maintain a consistent level of hydration. Hydration on game day, the day before, or any other day should not be any different. If you are not requiring the same level of hydration for your daily workouts/practices as you do on game day, you are doing it all wrong. :)

How did cyberland allow you to decipher that from my statement?

If players are dehydrated ON game day they will never be able to catch up. Zero doubts. Chugging water trying to catch up leads to nausea, cramping, and more importantly flush peeing. Peeing flushes out excess unused water, salts, minerals, electrolytes..... That will start a downward spiral.

Start hydrating 2 days before. Add in a pinch of sea salt while maintaining hydration on tournament/game day and drink chocolate milk. CM has protein, carbs, sugar, salt, calcium, vitamins, and it's pretty tasty when cold. Soy or almond milk works as well

Chocolate cashew milk is pretty darn good, too.

You took my post of of context. Please read the entire post. The level of hydration should not fluctuate. Your advice is based on the premise that you require less hydration for workouts/practices as you do for competition. If you require more hydration on game day then you do for workouts/practices your regimen is sorely lacking. Hydration should be a consistent part of an athletes lifestyle not a precursor to competition.
