So, I'm an AC for a 12U TB team and we have just completed our roster for going into fall ball, but had one more tournament before shutting it down for a few weeks. We asked one of our new team members to pick up with us as we were going to be skinny on kids and thought it best to have an extra. Our HC was pretty clear to our new parents about playing time for the last tournament but going into new season all positions were open.

Get done with the tournament, early I might add....ugh....and I get a call that the new player that just signed on with us and did a pick up with us has now quit.

She didn't play all that much in the tournament and when she did she didn't play the position she will be trying out for in the Fall, we had her in Left field and she did great. Well, I guess that wasn't good enough for her parents. I guess based on that one tournament they assumed that all our positions were guaranteed going into next year and their DD wasn't going to get a fair shake so they elected to pull her.

I'm a parent of a player on our team so I know how us parents can get sometimes, but please for the love of god, give the kid and the team a chance before you decide that everyone's already made up their minds. Maybe your DD doesn't get her first position, but maybe that child is really good at a second position and actually enjoys it more.

Like my dad used to say, you never know until you try.

Rant over.....

Maybe you should of had a conversation with the parents before. They may be saying the same thing, "glad we found out now".

Something doesn't sound quite right. I know parents are crazy, but most aren't so bad that they are told ''She's not going to play that much, and when she does, it might be in LF, which is no indication of where she'll be in the fall,'' and later say, "We were disappointed she didn't play that much, and it's clear they aren't going to give her a fair shot because she played LF.''

I still wonder if something failed in the pre-tournament conversation.

Our HC was pretty clear to our new parents about playing time for the last tournament but going into new season all positions were open.

But then they asked only 1 kid to play. Didn't let her play any in the spot she tried out for and she's 12. Maybe the parents aren't for your team and maybe the coach's idea of reduced playing time didn't coincide with the parents idea of reduced time.

Whatever happened, it sounds like they decided it wasn't a good fit for them. It's best for everyone that they figured it out before the season started, no matter what the reason was.

Perhaps they saw the players who plays the same position that their dd wants to play and determined that that player was better.
