A player on my team had broken her wrist a while ago which required a cast. 2 weeks ago she had it removed and started strength training. At her first practice yesterday she said her wrist kept hurting from the catches. She wanted to sit and then kept complaining about the pain. After some time on the bench her dad Dad came up to us and said her wrist is fine, and told her to get on the field and start playing. I just had her do base running, she also tried some hitting but I missed her reaction to it.

What am I supposed to do as a coach? I know she had an injury and I didn't want her to injure it again. I also know she also tends to milk the sympathy card.

Tough situation, player says they are hurting they are sitting. No interest in getting into middle of it.

I do not care what parents says.

Sounds like you handled it well. From what you say the dad knows she likes to whine. What the player needs to understand is the difference between pain and soreness from lack of use for several weeks while the wrist healed.

Tough decision. The best thing you can do is find someone who has known the player since birth and do what they say. If the player is a minor, consult their legal guardian. If you get lucky you will find a person who knows the player well and also happens to be their legal guardian, bonus! I have done this many times as a Coach and it works every time.
