I do it at almost every indoor practice.... no screen. Just masks and eveoshield shirts.... practice like you play.
We call pitches and locations with geared up catchers!. Its as live as you can get. We even have a signal for the catcher to throw down. She must hit a target on the back center of the cage. Been doing it for a few years.... never had an issue or injury.

I used to pitch to my girls. Only two pitches I threw were fastballs and changeups. Its fun. Use a screen at about 25 ft. After your arm poops out and you're sore the next day, you will alternate from machine to live pitching the next time in the cage.

Just to clarify, we are at full distance... not 25'.
For those who have pitchers that insist on a screen... what league do you play in that screens are used on game day?
sarcasm font is in red....
seriously though... practice like you play

How many games do you play with fluorescent lights and netting making it more difficult to see the ball? (sarcasm)

DD’s old 14U team used softies when live pitching in a tunnel. If I remember right the Incrediballs felt closest to the real thing.

Watch your noggin! Balls come off netting at odd angles. Been hit several times over the years, even behind the screen. If there are beams close to the net it's even worse.

My DD's still 8U but she's nearly taken out her hitting instructor several times because of those odd angles, and he's behind a screen. I know she's hitting harder than she used to because he's actually ducking and covering now.
