I'm going to try using this today. Let me see if I understand this correctly as I'm planning to implement it like a DH:

# Name Pos
5 Blue P
3 White DP (good fielder, bad hitter)
1 Black Flex (good hitter, bad fielder)
9 Red C

White is playing 2B, she doesn't hit
Black is going to hit for White every at bat, and I have to re-enter White on defense. There's unlimited subs/re-entrys this way? And DP never has to hit while Flex never has to field, right? Somewhere I read that they both have to play both offense and defense in a game, so I'm confused.

No... you have the terms backwards.

Your batter goes in the lineup:
1 Black DP (good hitter, bad fielder)

Your FLEX fielder goes at the END of the lineup (so generally in the 10th position on the lineup) and needs to be marked as the FLEX and what fielding positioning they will play
3 White Flex (good fielder, bad hitter)

You do not have to do any entry/re-entries if you want it to stay that way. DP hits, Flex fields.

The DP can also field if you like without taking the flex out as they are in the lineup. Effectively you have 10 fielders. Again no notification needed unless the DP is gong to pitch or catch.

That should answer your questions.

-----------------------------------------------------------------

If you want the FLEX to HIT or PINCH RUN they can only do it for the DP, and once you do it the DP/Flex is off and you treat them as normal subs (i.e. the DP can be reentered one more time)

DP can field for any position EXCEPT FLEX, without it being a substitution, I thought?

Sort of. DP can field, but you have to leave the flex in the field if you don't want to drop the flex from the lineup. If the flex comes out defensively and the DP goes in, then you've dropped your flex and you're down to 9 players and the flex has left the game. You can bring the flex back in and it's considered a re-entry.

Correct - the DP can field in any position as long as the Flex remains on the field defensively. Actual position they play on the field doesn't matter.

Got it now, thanks!

Just for understanding, if the flex enters the game on defense, that person she entered for, still bats in her position in the line up. This is not a substitution or line up change.

Defensive swaps - like say, moving a LF to 1B, or C to 3B - are not substitutions that must be reported.

If you have a FLEX, she must play defense somewhere on the field or else she has left the game and must use a re-entry to play defense later in the game. The DP can play defense and it is not a substitution as long as the FLEX is also on defense.

Hope this helps.
