beyond the fences
coaching 12U travel, we had the girls vote for co-captains. It worked out well as they delegated who was to clean out dugouts
but most importantly led by example on and off the field. When the team played 'flat' they held players only meetings and it seemed
to work like magic. Next season we will have different captains for spring-summer fall

most of the girls on the team don't really want to be there. They aren't there because they like the sport or they want to learn how to play the sport. They are there just because they see it as a free hang out place, a place to meet new people and make more friends, and a way to get out of the house. as a leader i would love it if the team actually wanted to be there. but it seems like most of the girls don't have a true intrest in it. there aren't enough girls to replace them either. so as a leader i would love to spark some intrest in the sport. any ideas or anything??? i'm desperate.

It's tough to get people to do things they don't want to do. If they're not into the sport there's probably little you can do to change it. Your best bet for this team is try to lead by example. Maybe if some of the girls see you working hard and having fun they'll give it a try too.

More likely, though, you'll need to change teams to find one with girls who are more like you.

I think a few parents may have an opinion on how "free" it is. :)

MTR- that is true....it's not free for my family. lol.
ken krause- thanks for the advice, i'll try it this season. hopefully it works, but it wouldn't feel right to leave the team. it's my last year playing with the team and my dad is the coach so i'll play this season, hopefully i'll spark some intrest....
