As for college kids going to see mommy and daddy between games. I don't see why that would be important to anyone. Football players don't take in visitors at half time, why should softball players. If the parents and friends drove all the way to see someone play on campus they can stick around a couple of hours and visit with their softball player. Take her out to dinner, she doesn't get the opportunity often so visit with her away from the field. That way the helicopter blades won't get in the way of the game.

There's a major difference between halftime in football and between games of a double header.

You mean other then the coaches talking to the players about how they played and what they expect next grabbing a snack and a beverage and resting. Maybe a bathroom break. And the whole only halfway done thing. I see the differences pretty clearly

What about the 1.25 hour break in tournies as in one game ends and the next begins in exactly 75 min.

Or a 2.5 hour break between games in tourneis.

The reason behind this practice is to keep the athletes focused between games. This never resonated well with me. It is impossible for any human being to stay focused for two entire games including the lapse in competition between games. It is said that the human mind can only truly focus for around 10 seconds at a time. If this is true, we are constantly going in and out of focus throughout the game. If we are able to do this through out the game, surely we can break focus to eat a snack, visit with our fans, and then regain focus when it’s time to warm up again. That brings up another great point, warm ups. I’ve never watched a team go straight into the second game after a break without warming up. There is always at least 10-15 minutes of warm up before that second game. This is the perfect time to get mentally prepared for game 2.

This reminds me of a similar thing that I didn't like about my daughter's most recent team. The coach demanded high energy and complete focus from the moment that warmups began - 1 hour before game time.

Sounds good on paper, but for 13-year-olds, I think it's unrealistic at best and exhausting mentally at worst when you're talking about 3-4 games in a day. Let's say you have three 1.5-hour games and three 1-hour warmups. That's 7.5 hours of complete focus and high energy. Add a fourth game and that's 10 hours.

Warmups should have focus, but 'relaxed' focus. Be loose. When you get between the white lines, that's when you need the most focus, IMHO.

Some of the comments here remind me why I took a break from coming to this website. Pure negativity. I thought I was die hard until I read some of the jerk comments here. But, we can all learn from things we agree with, and disagree with. If you feel giving your daughter a 15 minute break between games of a double header to be taboo, then imagine what kind of break she takes away from you after she moves out of the house. I'm reminded a lot lately that the game is for the GIRLS, and not me (even though I'm her coach).
