I never needed anyone to tell me that winning was the goal.

Some players do need reminding of this. Some players think the goal is being the starting shortstop or getting a scholarship. Reminding everyone of the common team oriented goal will help the "process".

Many paths up the mountain my friend. I'll stick to my belief that process trumps results, someone should have told this to A-ROID and Braun.

For many players the goal is exactly what you say, and the fundamental problem with travel softball. It is everywhere, the colleges coaches say it in certain forms, and I repeat it as many times as I can.

The GOAL is to completely understand the process to be a WINNER. Believe it or not, when you are old and grey like I am, if you WIN, they remember. Little else.

My DD knows how to win, has won, and has affected the lives of people not even involved with softball. It takes sacrificing yourself, for others.

Many will never get it. Get their money, tell stories to their kids. But not one of the endings to the stories, for them, is WE were the best in the land!!

Not softball so apologize. Last night in a golf match, one of my girls hits a ball that might be out of bounds (OB) and so she calls the other members of her group over to take a look. None of them can determine if she is OB. She marks the spot goes to the closes white stake and look again. (did not pick up ball but in rough so couldn't see it from stake. Still can't determine. Other tell her to play 2 balls and let coaches determine. This young lady asked them what they would say because at this moment, they can't determine. So, rather than let this go which she knows will be determined to be in bounds because no coach saw it, she walks back and hits from the previous spot taking the penalty for OB. I was very proud of her. Afterwards, she said that he didn't want to get a reputation as a cheater and although no one could determine the legality of the first ball, she said she would know that there was a question. That made her a winner! We lost the match. Again, I'm very proud of her.
