How many girls do you carry on a travel team? Personally I like 10, but I know others who will pack a dugout full. Just curious as to everyone's thoughts on this.

We carry no more than 11. We are a 12A team. We have 3 pitchers (one of which is developing/just starting out) and 2 catchers. We actually picked up our 2nd pitcher from a team that was carrying 14 players. She was their number 1 but was only pitching about 5 innings and playing about another 6 -10 a weekend due to the quality of the team and the number of players. Her parents were very frustrated to say the least.

But, I do know when we get to high school and heavy into college and exposure events, we will need to expand the roster somewhat. We live on a state line and the two states have different high school seasons.

My DD's 14U team is budgeted on a 12 person roster so thats what we carry. It's good number to work with imo because of the flexability it gives you any given weekend due to injuries, absences, who's playing well, etc.. My older DD's gold team carries 11.

11 was my favorite to carry, and very easy to manage. Every now and then we would play with 12-13 because someone would call wanting to play for the weekend ( their team wasn't playing on that weekend ). I always felt it was good PR and that "pick ups" work both ways.

I see and hear teams carrying 14-15 players and just can't imagine "everyone" is happy.

We always kept names and numbers of 2-3 girls who didn't commit full time to travel but were good enough to fill in...... in case of injuries or whatever. If we needed them they were only a phone call away.

We have had 11 then 12. 11 is perfect if everyone stays healthy, doesn't dance, play vollyball, have weddings to go to, or ever get injured. Life happens, so we now have 12.
