I prefer 11, although went w/ 10 last year and was fine b/c of good commitment and good health. If guaranteed that, I'd say 10 at younger ages, but you have to be lucky for that to work.

I always get scared with 10 or 11. Actually had a tournament last year at regionals where we had three girls hurt in a single game, granted that was a first and if push came to shove one or two of the girls could have stayed out there put it was nice to have extra, although once you get past 12 it seems like you can not keep anyone happy at all and as a coach you always feel like you should be doing more to try to get certain girls in or just get in to spots where you just keep wishing you had less girls and not the pain of so many.

I think 11-12 is probably the sweet spot with a couple girls you can call if someone gets sick or has an emergency on Wednesday or Thursday.

Can't be nobody puts my little angel on the bench, she needs to be in the circle;)

I used my DD as pitcher only quite a few times to ensure my position players/parents stayed happy. Which is pretty common in BB so it was normal to me. But try explaining that to other FP pitcher parents and they look at you like the son of Satan.

This is an interesting discussion. In my experience 10 is perfect when you have all solid athletes and they are healthy. 11 is perfect when you need a little room on the bench (could be a variety of reasons).

I have been reading on another forum where the older showcase teams are carrying 15 and saying you can't get through a major showcase with any less. I read this with great interest as our girls are all 13 (mostly 8th graders) this season and are pondering options for next year.

I know when we faced the Gold Coast Hurricane's 12u team in Myrtle Beach last year they carried 15 or 16 players and 5 were pitchers. I thought that looked like a parent nightmare and wondered how that worked for them.

Right now we have 9 - last year carried 13 and it was brutal....10 or 11 is my preference as long as you have enough depth....right now we have 3 pitchers and 4 kids that can catch....

Quietly sit in the bleachers on Sunday and you'll find out exactly how they feel. I use to get my best feedback from parents of other teams who sat in on our games. :)
