Pretty cool, Cannonball. I wish your DD much success and we will be rooting for her this year from up in NW Illinois.

It really is a small world, our pitching coach attended U. Mo. St. Louis and everybody who knows anything about high school softball in Illinois has heard of Troy.

I like your idea, my dd is a hs freshman this year and as she gets older some of the girls we saw play locally are starting to pop up on college teams. For the first time in my life I'm reading the local sports page, following the young gals that dd has played with or against and it sure is neat to see their hard work result in success. Adding some DFP dd's to that will make me study the sports pages harder!

I thought big dummy 2 was signing this week did I miss the picture?

We had to move the signing to Tuesday at 10:15. Had a scheduling conflict. I probably won't post pics and stuff until Thursday because that's when it looks like my "surprise" will be in the paper. I've waited 17 years, gotta get my money's worth. :)

Depends On The Day
... With your dd being a freshman, enjoy the ride. I wish mine were a freshman in high school again. Hard to believe how fast it goes.

Cannonball, That is so true.

Westwind, The recruiting process can be a real roller coaster. Strap in for the ride. My DD's now into her first year of D1 College ball. Time flies.

Cannonball, nice post first of all. I always wonder where the girls end up as I follow the threads.

My DD isn't a top player by any means, but your comments about your DD give me hope that there are opportunities for Dd's who have some drive, talent, a little luck and the desire to play into college. What do you think was most helpful in getting your DD a spot on the team?

Hawai'i Pacific University. Thank you for your time and effort with the Vinci Glove, DD will be taking it with her to the next level. Next up, that specialized catchers glove we spoke about.

Congrats again. I'm always curious as to why a particular college is chosen. Since Hawaii is not the norm we see, what was the allure? What field of study is she going for?

Thanks again GD...

Without my DD actually coming on here an answering the questions, I'll try to answer as best I can. My daughter is very mature for her age and has a very good idea of what she want's to do in life. As a family we did extensive research on colleges between my DD's 8th and 9th grade years. With some input from my wife and I she developed a list of criteria for schools and came up with her list of schools she would consider attending. Her criteria included;

1) Offered a Degree in her academic field of choice (Elementary Education) and able to play softball while majoring in this field
2) Campus Size
3) Class Size
4) Location (Outside of California)
5) Academic Advising
6) Competitive Softball Program
7) Experienced Coaching Staff
8) Facilities
9)Opportunity to play on the West Coast
10) Opportunity to Play for NCAA Championship

The allure is, that Hawai'i Pacific University offers everything she's looking for in a school academically and athletically. Collectively we feel that HPU is the perfect school for her.

I like the way you think and how you and yours laid out the "needs" high on the list and the "wants" lower.

My niece just graduated and got her first classroom of first graders after the New Year. After a week with them she says "I'm not having kids of my own for a long time"!!! She passed on a D2 soccer scholarship and just went full time student ( elementary education ).

^^^^^^ Wise words.

Cannonball,

Your inbox is full. We attended Brett's recruiting seminar last night and saw the video you did on Brianna's experience. Very helpful. My DD is now freaking out and questioning whether she wants to play in college. I think she's a little overwhelmed right now. Brett doesn't get the impression she doesn't want to play. I'm sure it will work out. It's weird, she went from all excited, to wanting no part of it. Did your DD experience anything similar?
