DD has been wearing contacts for 2 years (she is 12) and she has one eye that for some reason it just falls out of every once in a while. I have talked to her about this and told her she needed to have an extra set in her softball bag at all times. She had sports goggles when she was 9 and hated them.

So she hits a rope that goes into the right field corner, slows down coming around 2nd, and gets thrown out at 3rd. She should have walked into 3rd because she is a fast runner. After the game I get a chance to talk to her and she said she lost a contact and couldn't see the coach waving her around 2nd! She has had one fall out while standing at the plate too...

What do you say contacts or glasses??

Player preference. Our DD got glasses in 2nd year 12U, last year. Apparently prescription not strong enough to warrant sunglasses. So she has regular glasses and a really cool pair of Oakely prescription shades for sunny days. She loves those.

She says she'd like contacts....right up until teammates are struggling with them in the dug out. Then she's glad she has glasses.

Agree on an extra set with you in your bag if you're going to wear them.

Mines wears glasses, not interested in contacts. A lot of the girls in her club wear hard contacts when playing.

If a contact is always falling out, then it’s not sitting right on her eye. If she is to wear contacts because she chooses to, then you need to take her back to the eye dr. and demand that they refit to get the correct eye curvature.

Is it possible that she is putting the contact lens in backward?

Regardless, I would always recommend keeping an extra set of contact lenses in the bat bag. She should also keep her prescription glasses nearby in case she gets something in her eye and her eye gets scratched.

As someone who has played in both, contacts.

I have NEVER had a contact fall out in 15 years of playing with them. Ever. They’re not right and need to be changed.

When DD was 11, we figured out that she needed vision correction. It was February, right before the season started, and we got her a fancy pair of sport goggles to wear. She hated them, said that they messed up her depth perception. She had trouble hitting and especially fielding ground balls. I've seen lots of girls playing with glasses or goggles, so I imagine that if you've been wearing them for a while you get used to it.

It took her more than two months of practice before she could manage to get contacts in her eyes. Now that she has the hang of it, she refuses to wear the goggles.

She's never had one fall out, her eye doctor spent a lot of time with her to get the curve right. She's got small eyes, so he said he had her at the maximum curve. If you go back to the eye doctor and tell them that the contacts have been falling out, they should be able to help you find the right fit. Good luck!

Both of my girls wear contacts when playing and have for a few years now. They've each had the occasional issue with one falling out or tearing but it seems like it's always been related to windy/gusty conditions and them rubbing their eyes or something. Yes, always keep an extra pair and saline available. Another suggestion might be to try a pair of sunglasses with either clear, light yellow or rose optics, it can help keeping the dust out. I would certainly go back to the eye Doc and have them refit your DD if this is happening alot and without good cause!
