My daughter plays 14u ball for one of the most competitive clubs in NJ. We are considering moving to Georgia from NJ. She’s playing with her current team now, and who knows when we will move. As with any move, it depends on a lot of factors.

How would you handle this situation? Do you tell your current coach? How do you find another club? When do you ask around? How about school ball? It’s played in fall as opposed to spring here. When do you reach out to get her in on a tryout since you won’t be going to school there until tryouts are over? Etc etc

Anyone have experience with this?

We moved twice in the middle of the season. Contact coaches in your new area and get your kids to tryouts. Since they were playing. My girls got a chance to guest play with their prospective teams. It worked out great. Be assertive. Teams want good players.

Your DD will play HS ball in the fall in GA. If you’re looking for a team in GA, check out Georgia Fastpitch Players Group on FB and Georgia Coaches Corner website. There should be enough people on DFP from the southeast to help point you in the right direction for your DD’s level of play.

Luckily, my daughter is a later in the year 05, so she'll be entering 8th grade in the fall. It gives her a little time, and to play "feeder" ball I guess? I've been researching, and it looks like tryouts for that is in May depending on the school district we move to. The problem is I don't know if we will be down there by May.

I did look at the Georgia Coaches Corner. Should I reach out now (we haven't purchased anything in Georgia yet) or wait until I do that. We do have a target area that we are looking into.

GA Coaches' Corner is the best spot to look. I wouldn't contact anyone until you know when you're going to be here though. Teams that are looking this spring for players might not need the same positions next fall and vice-versa. And if she's a pitcher, you're golden. Everyone and their dog is always looking for a pitcher. Tryouts for fall (for travel) are held anywhere from the last week of July up until mid-August when school ball practice generally starts. You'll want her squared away by then. Feeder ball seems to vary from county to county; what general area are you considering?

It may be easier to narrow down where you will be living and then post you have an 05 (positions) looking for a team. You will get plenty of responses from B level teams that play fairly local (southeast region). If you are looking for a true A organization, you’ll probably have to wait until tryout season begins. Some of these teams will have an organization wide tryout weekend. Just monitor Coaches Corner and FB for these tryouts. If you have questions about a team or organization, you can remain fairly anonymous by asking those questions here.

I was going to say the same thing.

Plenty of ball down here. Lots of teams, lots of tourneys. I hope the transition is smooth for all of you.

You're in my neck of the woods, though the two areas you mention can be vastly different. North Fulton can be dense urban areas with healthy business districts, and Forsyth County can be vast farms and country living. I'm kind of in the middle, which is perfect for me. Obviously you'll be looking around a lot. Happy to give advice if you need it.
