My dd just passed her driving test today!! So sweet!! She can now take herself to practices, games and most importantly to SCHOOL!!!! I hate dealing with those insane parents dropping their kids off in the middle of the street.

Insurance went up about a 100 month though!! DAMN IT!!

It is the absolute best.

I can't understand the parents who say "XXX doesn't want to get her drivers license." or "XXX doesn't want to drive" or even "I don't want XXX to drive".

Also you get them to go get stuff you don't feel like or run errands you don't want to in return for 'gas money'. And they are great designated drivers - they can totally come get you from the restaurant/bar after a good bottle (or two) of wine or some cocktails/beers with your meal.

Totally worth the additional insurance.

On the negative side however, I see a WHOLE lot less of DD. The "I am going/out with my friends. Be back later." is real.

DD has a few more years before she can drive. DS has been driving about 6 months. nearly 150.00 per month!! Killin' us! Make sure she is never in a hurry. Late is fine as long as you get there safe. At 16, my DS has no idea all the stuff he doesn't know!

Yep....DD#1 got her license, my insurance went up more than $100 per month, but life got much easier.

A bonus...she's working and contributing to the added cost on a flate-rate per month basis. I don't hassle her for gas or car maintenance, and she gets herself and DD#2 where they need to be. I'm still driving to all practices and games because I need to be there as well.

Congrats to Angela!! The twins got their's the first week of January (handicapped parking placard a week later for K but that's a different story...ugh) and so far so good. The wife & I are both still a little hesitant about some of the commutes. Practice for their travel team is about an hour away down the mountain and when it's during rush hour with icy roads well, I still drive them. Haven't used the family uber service yet but that will happen!

It's definitely a bitter sweet moment. There are aspects that sure make life a lot easier. As an example, my office is approximately 35 minutes from my house. Practice for DD's travel team is approximately 40 minutes from my house, but only 10 minutes from my office. Before she got her license, I would need to leave work, drive 35 minutes to pick her up, and then drive 40 minutes to practice. After getting her license I just needed to drive 10 minutes to practice. Huge win for me!!! But as marriard stated, we saw a lot less of her once we were not needed to drive her everyplace she wanted to go. It's definitely one of those moments when you realize how quickly they grow up...
