Just found out my DD's new high school coach will be DD's biggest competitors father. Not sure how I feel about this. Other girl is a phenomenal player but if her dad is coach then I don't think there will be a fair competition for positions.

His DD plays more than one position at a time on the field?

All I can say is that be in the top 10 hitters and top 9 fielders and be on the field. Softball is a small world - everyone knows at this point who should be on the field. There is plenty of opportunity for more than one phenomenal player to play - I'd love to have 12 of them :)

DD played 7 positions in HS this year and batted everywhere from 2nd to 6th. Was it the best use of her? Probably not, but she was out there helping in whatever way they asked her.

Well... they both can't play pitcher and SS at the same time. My goal is for my DD to be on a team where is the 5th or 6th best player. Or, as said elsewhere on this forum, the P2 breathing down the neck of the P1.

Both are pitchers and SS. Both compete in other sports for top dog in their age group. It's a competition for playing time. Not sure I like the new development.

Seems like a decent arrangement to me. One plays short and one is in the circle. Then they switch when necessary. When my DD was a sophomore she typically started at 1st while a senior was in the circle. She gradually earned more and more circle time and the senior moved to first.

Well, coaches DD cannot pitch and play SS at the same time, so my suggestion would be to have your DD play the one not occupied by coaches DD. I would also like to point out that 98.2% of recruiting is done in TB and at camps, so your DD's HS experience can only have a negative impact on 1.8% of the recruiting process...although I have found that college LOVE to put HS stats in their players bios.

My dd's last couple of years of travel she played with the coaches dd. The coach liked how my dd fielded so he made her secondary position SS, plus he had a good hitter who couldn't play much other then 1st base which was my dd's usual secondary position. So between the 2 when one pitched the other played SS. It worked out pretty well because no one else had to move in order to keep these 2 good bats in the lineup. It was funny watching the reaction of the other coaches to my dd playing SS though. You don't usually see a left handed SS at 16U or 18U. Made for some great reactions.

Daddy ball appears rampant in HS ball. It can take the form of a parent actually coaching the team, or it can be a close family friend or a travel ball coach who is going to favor their own players over all others, sometimes without regard for ability. I see it all the time.

I guess it all depends on whether that "competitor" is hostile or not. If the coach doesn't like or at least respect your DD as a ballplayer, then you may be in for problems.

Both young ladies are great players. Both will play and start. DD has her work cut out. Was a tough competition to begin with. Looks even harder now. Competition is good though. It will make the players and team better!
