In the right situation Juco can definitely be a great way to go financially. Two have been talking to mine who is entering her sophomore year. They have asked others if they even have a shot at her and honestly I say yes. If it is the best option financially for her to get an education without debt and still get her chance to play DI softball down the road I am all for it. I have also been told and others may be able to speak from experience that the 10% offers out of HS can turn into more for players that continue to develop and are good students.

If you want to see truly bad D1 softball go watch a SWAC game where last years champion Alabama A&M is ranked at #611 and Grambling is #1194. I saw them both play - #611 and #1194 is WAY generous for both teams. Truly some awful teams that in some cases would struggle to get far in a reasonable weekend 16U tournament (that may be a touch harsh).

I have never had the opportunity to watch a SWAC conference game. However, I have watched some bad softball at all levels. I guess the standard is set at what you call "good". That can mean different things to everyone. If you regularly watch a really good 18A team full of college commits, I know that you could watch a lot of college games and think the 18A team would beat both teams. I don't think your 16U comment is too harsh, it is reality and that is fine. I also agree that the main argument is where the good D3 teams fall in the overall hierarchy of college softball.

For the student, athlete, school choice should be based on academic offerings and the quality of education at the chosen school.
That being said, as a parent, we want the most competitive games ever. There are good and bad teams at every level.
Pick and choose-be blessed that you are afforded the opportunity to play college ball anywhere.

I think more accurately the choice should be based on which school provides the best opportunity. That may or may not be the best academic school or the best athletic program. You need to find what is right for the specific individual.
