When she gets old enough to be playing showcases, you will see that the rant is irrelevant. Enjoy the tb summer and cut Rec ball goodbye.

My DD quit rec when she started travel but I'm 100% sure she'd tell me that making a rec All Stars team or getting any sort of rec award would not mean anything to her. She doesn't even care about trophies we won last year when we played in lower level travel tournaments. Is SHE upset or just you?

When rec is all you've played, making All-Stars is a big deal. Esp when you aren't allowed to play TB and do All-Stars. All-Stars is sometimes the only real competition rec girls have where they can play with other good players.
I wouldn't worry as much if she's also playing TB - leave All-Stars to the girls who don't play TB. DD finally started playing TB this season so she's not able to do All-Stars and it's sad since she's been on a team pretty much every summer after her first season. Due to a lot of the girls in rec this season playing TB, they weren't even able to make a All-Star team in her division. I'm sure they would have done really well again like they've done most seasons but the comp level is so much higher in TB - she won't get any better continuing with rec..

Yea when my dd was 11 she originally didn't get selected for the All Star team. I was happy! Very. Meant vacation and a chillaxin summer. Then we got the phone call five days later, after they made the selection and announced the AllStar team on the loud speaker. "Hey Mike, is your dd available to play all stars?" I was like "#&,beep,*!@&% Beep,$*+!!! " So yea did the silver team and regretted the entire summer. Bad coaching, and daddy ball up the wazoo! Next year was the best all-star experience for her at second year of 12's. Did the gold team and coaching and players were on point! Best thing ever. One more year of Rec at 14U. My daughter got so bored of Rec, she made the decision to do travel ball . So no allstars that year. Best thing that happened. Got to go to Colorado and meet some new friends .

So see things happen for a reason. Keep your head up.

been there, done that, I hear you. some kids it is a big deal to, others not so much. my DD2 was that way, very POd the year (as an 8 YO) she did not make 10u rec AS team. and I could not tell her this, but it was politics, HC and I had a history, he was by and large a sleazeball. told her she had two more years, she was unanimous AS pick the next year, her last of rec (tired of playing with girls who could neither throw nor catch, each team normally had 3-4 girls who could). DD1 got similarly screwed a few years earlier, because she played 12u when 10 YO, and all the 10u coaches wanted to vote for kids on their teams for the 10u AS team.

This is tough for a kid who knows they should have been selected. Like Orange Socks example from high school there often is just too much politics. Hopefully your daughter can understand there is a long game to success and probably 1/2 those kids won’t even play in high school. Better to peak latter anyway.

Last year I had a local 15U recreation team which I coached because asked. We joined as DD2 wanted to practice slapping (new skill) and get some innings in the circle. All-Star vote comes up and I let the kids vote (excluding themselves). So guess what, they nailed the 5 best players pretty much in order. Myself and an AC didn’t send our kids (because age) and sent two 15s (next vote getters). Of those two, one homered (only HR ever) in AS game and one hit two doubles. Best game of season for both. Neither of them will go far in HS softball, never mind beyond so they had a great day.

All parents were happy we let kids vote (never done in 20 years of league) and that we let those two kids go. One girl personally thanked the other two girls for letting her have the chance.

Point of this: probably should let the kids take the lead, parents generally screw it up.
