need some help, not softball related strictly speaking, but youth sports.

pretty much offered a promotion involving relocation for work. trouble is, there is none (and I mean none, one fledgling rec league touting a basic skills clinic, none of the HS offer it, and I mean none, in large city about an hour away there is an adult club that plays a few nights a week, that is it, we spend a whole night on the internet searching hi, lo, under, over) of a particular sport my DD has worked hard at for 5 years (she is about to enter HS). her goal right now is to play collegiately (not necessarily D1, but she wants to play after HS). She has been dreaming about playing on HS team for past year. there is nothing in the area we would have to relocate to. also have another DD (her sports are prevalent in the area, fastpitch being one), but no issues there except the normal moving ones.

would you factor this into your decision? I am just feeling like we would be yanking rug out from under her if we did this, and obliterating her aspirations.

What city?

Kind of confused about your first sentence. You said not softball related, but are you talking about fastpitch? What youth sports are you talking about?

Would I factor this into my decision? Yes. Would I let it make my decision for me? No. Will the overall quality of life for your family be better if you take the promotion and move? Is this promotion what you want professionally, or just a step along the way? Lot of factors in play, with youth sports being one very small piece of it. Best of luck in your decision making process.

You can accept the transfer and then afford to get her on a good club team. She might enjoy HS ball, but she doesn’t need it to play in college. If there’s no club teams in the area you can still play for one. Train at home and be with the team at tourneys. She’s at the age where it happens all the time and it’s actually better than it sounds. Best of luck to your daughters!

Girls playing on travel teams not practicing with team and only playing tournaments with them happens all the time. We are looking at a girl right now that lives 8 hours away from where we practice. No biggie.

A promotion? By that, you mean more money for your family and a better quality of life? I've seen WAY worse reasons to move, including moving so the kid MIGHT have a better athletic opportunity at some other school. Youth sports is an activity that will end for the player sooner than most people think. I would never let something like that be the deciding factor over my family's longer-term best interest.

-sport is field hockey. not even club/travel teams in this area, sport simply does not exist in the region at any level really. one adult club in major city 1 hour away. all major tournaments are gonna be at least 8 hours away. also her position is one that requires others to help her train.

-would mean more money, but probably not huge bump (I make a good living already), with cost of living though not certain how much quality of life would improve. long term if I do not take the job is stable, but not really much opportunity to advance within the organization I am in. more of an opportunity for more responsibility, plus further advancement down the road.

of course she could change her mind (she is female after all), but for past 18 months or so she has shown real dedication. the three weeks she was shut down this winter were the most miserable three weeks she has had in quite some time. she trains 5 days a week and maintains very good grades. when she realized to play collegiately, grades mattered as well, she buckled down harder in school, and went from good to excellent student.

just so hard. if we did this, I could seriously see her physically refusing to get in the car when it was time to go.

Ahh, ok. Thought it was softball. A regional sport would be different. Best of luck.
