I have thought about this. Here is what i am looking at.

HC is not a teacher. Having been a coach for another HS and another sport, i know that it is hard to get rid of teachers that are coaches. I also know that it is actually pretty easy to get rid of non-teacher HCs. But, this does depend in the AD.

DD 2 will NOT play at all for the current HC. So, if i roll the dice and he is not replaced, then she is not playing. At this point, i have nothing to lose.

One of the student managers is the only other person to leave. Others have “said” they will mot return next year.

I can say that the person i have talked to, other than the AD, was able to tell me that other parents have had concerns. He was not able to tell me how many or what, due to his position and privacy. Just that there have been concerns.

Now, if this HC was a teacher and we did not get a new AD, i would for sure be letting this alone.

Are you sure about the recruiting and scholarships?
That is usually considered highly "illegal" by the state athletic associations both private and public.

There is definitely recruiting going on; as well as “scholarships” being given. There are definitely ways around it.

Reading discuss Fastpitch about HS ball is like reading a horror novel. So worried about next year!
Don't worry, just talk to some parents- do not talk to freshman starter parents, instead talk to upperclassmen parents, both starters and bench players.

My DD is a freshman pitcher who is a starter. Our team is 8-3 and my DD is having a good experience in HS. [Looks around for the grim reaper]

So currently the team is 2-8. Last place in the division. Only wins have been against VERY weak teams. Most losses have been by 7 or more runs.

High school sports is suppose to be fun and an opportunity to play for school pride and amongst friends who you may or may not play together on travel ball teams. No one has to play it if they don't want to, it's 100% voluntary and at least PE (which softball fulfills that requirement for freshman/sophomore years) doesn't have to be taken junior/senior years.

One thing I do want to point out is a lot of problems in sports, and real life in general, is miscommunication and only seeing things from your own perspective. For example, if your DD sat down with the head coach and told him how she felt, she might get some insight into why he said what he said, etc. Who knows maybe he will apologize, maybe what he said was taken out of context, maybe he expects more from your DD since she will be playing in college and is more committed to the team and game, or maybe he is just an axx...But one thing I know for sure, getting this off her chest will make her feel a little better, she might learn something about herself (e.g. how to handle certain situations with adults), and it may help the coach realize that what he said was wrong and won't do it again with your DD and/or other members of the team? Good luck...

Again, were our DDs on the same team? ??? :D

So was mine. If she wasn't pitching she was starting at SS or CF. she hit leadoff and batted over .450. Her fielding pct was like .980. She was named a league all-star that year and the following year.

What I was getting at was Parents of Freshmen who are starters tend to think the picture is sunnier than it really is.

While this is true, you get into a situation where a kid who loves the game and has looked forward to playing the game at the highest level In HS. Then after she gets there, she finds out it's a darker place than she had been led to believe. She still loves the game but not with that team. Decides to call it quits so the coach starts to harass her on her personal cell phone. He was just trying to motivate you, she is told. Yes 100% voluntary, but that doesn't make it 100% right.

Next year, I will know your pain all too well. The HS my DD will be attending lost 32-0 to the top team in the league last week. Most losses have been by 10+. 3 have been 20+. The 2 freshmen pitchers are rec level, but consistent enough to put the ball in the strike zone most of the time. For even mediocre teams, it's batting practice. Knowing the players coming into the school in the next couple of years, I expect some marginal improvement on defense and with the bat, but zero improvement in pitching. Next year, my DD will be the only player with significant TB experience.

DD1 came home last night stating that after yet another loss, another player was called out on the bus for something. Things were thrown. Now the starting P, who is friends with my DD said that she is getting ready to quit. 2 other players have told my DD that since she left, they are now being treated like she was and they are deciding if they want to leave now also. One player quit the other day, after the calling out and throwing things.

I told my DD that the girls that are telling her these things, need to go talk with the AD. She said that she is trying to get the to go say something.

This HC took over after the team from the previous year complained about the HC and he was not brought back. This was after a successful season where the team played in, I believe, division finals, and went something like 25-3. The current HC then took over and went 6-14, falling from 1st place to 2nd to last. His next season they went 12-10 and came in 3rd out of 6 in the division. This season so far the are as stated before, 2-8 and have lost BAD to teams they beat last year easily. They lost 3 seniors from last year, but they were replaced by very capable underclassman. In my opinion the 2 of the 3 are actually better at the positions. The other is equal. I think that this years roster looked better on paper at the beginning of the season. I thought that the team would be doing better then last year, purely on the basis of the individual players when compared to last year. I really think the difference is that this year the players are not playing for each other, the school, or the HC. They seem to not care.

A dad on my DD's TB team is trying to recruit my DD to play catcher for his kid's private school team. I told him there are 20K reasons why I wouldn't consider entertaining that idea among many other things such class rank, friends, distance, and JUST for her Senior year. He said they offer "scholarships" and the coach could be pretty motivated to bring in a stud catcher. I haven't even said anything to my DD. She's upstairs right now. Let me see what she says.....Okay that was a big fat NO. "not my senior year!" she says. I tried.
