Great read, thanks for posting. My DD is just getting ready to turn 12 and is in 6th grade, she is in her 4th year of TB. Although we hold her to a high standard in all things, she pushes herself past our expectations. Early in her "career" she wanted to get on better teams and be the #1 pitcher and #4 hitter, and worked hard to achieve it, and until this year that all happened for her. While she enjoys her role as the #2 pitcher and 6th hitter on her new team she still works to be the #1 and #4. She does the same thing with her grades, if she gets a B she thinks about what she could have done to get an A. She rarely gets in trouble and usually that is for not cleaning her room or something. She has little time for boys and does not care about being the popular kid. I firmly believe that it is not all our "fine parenting, we owe the game and what it has taught her.
