Today is the day of the communion that DD is missing. Bottom of the 5th, hasn’t played the field, hasn’t batted and hasn’t pinch run. Don’t want to tell my mil any of this

Am I the only person that thought communion was done on Sunday mornings at Church? What am I missing here? Is your MIL making this out to be like a wedding or a funeral?

Glad to hear you supported your DD's wishes when it comes to your family. Hope she did get into play. If she didn't and the MIL gets nasty be sure to let her know your DD made a commitment to the team and it's her decision to make about which event trumps the other.

JAD, there are people who feel their faith trumps everything. My oldest DD and future SIL are going back and forth about their wedding ceremony. His mom is insisting on certain things and they want to do something different. His mom is VERY involved with the church, so I can understand some of what Cyder517 is struggling with.

I am not Catholic but I believe their first communions are different than the protestant "Sunday Morning" communion. My family and I go to church and are fairly faithful. My dad is a pastor and I was never allowed to play any travel sports even though I got asked a lot. We take our kids to church on Wed nights sometimes when we will miss for tournys. I do not feel like you must be at church every week, but should make it a habit to get there when you can.

90% of catholic first communions are done during Sunday mass. Sometimes like where I went if the church is bigger they will split it up and you can choose different mass times or a few different dates.

Each church or area can be different based on tradition. I Know of one church that would always do it at the Saturday evening mass. Less people so kids would not be nervous and things would move faster.

Yes, tell the coach ASAP. I tell my players that with prior notice I can probably work around most anything. But when I find out a week in advance that you absolutely must go to a party or wedding that has been on the books for months, you can use your time the following weekend to find a new team. If I cannot count on you to be there then I will give the opportunity to someone else. It is up to you, not mom or dad to manage your time

*Update- DD pinch ran in the top of the 6th, then was put in the line up during top 7. Walked and got a run in for the team. They won

My parents drove 8 hours to come visit the family a few months ago during a weekend that DD was guest playing in a one day tournament with the team that she is now playing with. They couldn't be bothered to ride the 1 hour with us to the tournament to see her play. So, they drove 8 hours to sit in our house with us for 4 hours Saturday night. Stay in our house by themselves Sunday and spend another 4 hours with us Sunday night. Then they got to hang out with us after work Monday night before they drove home. My DW asked me if I was worried that they would be upset that I didn't stay at home and spend time with them instead of watching DD play ball. I told her, "Nope, screw them. They should come watch what their grandchild loves to do if they want to spend time with us."

My DD is more important.
