Hard to believe that this is actually an issue. My take is that if something as benign as a prayer circle makes players "uncomfortable" they are woefully unprepared for the future. Sounds like drama for the sake of drama.

I doubt many people get upset about it IRL. I've been one of the more vocal against it here, but IRL I just pack up my chair and head back to the team's home camp. I can debate something on a message board but still let it pass when it actually happens. Philosophy v. reality.

Some people can be offended by most anything. And it doesn't have to be faith based. When the DD's were starting out in rec ball they were participating in a post season national trail type tournament series. The kids were warming up for a game against a team from another state. The other team had a dance thing they did before each game in front of the parents. The invited our kids to come and join them. Our kids declined and kept warming up for the game. You'd thought our kids ran over there called the parents names and spit on them. Some of the moms were speaking very loudly among themselves about how disrespectful, among other things, our kids were for turning down the other team down. Luckily, the parents on our team were smart enough to keep quiet. And it also helped the kids beat the other team badly.

People don't get offended by prayer circle. it's the offence taken by the team and the parents who does the prayer circle when other team don't participate in their prayer circle. Our HS team hold prayer circle after every game, we played a team about couple counties over and beat them. After the game our team shook hands and held hands around the pitcher's circle for prayer. Other team politely walked away and went on to their after game meeting. Our parents and girls were offended because the other team did not join them. They thought that other team did not join them because they were mad that they lost the game.

Bob,

This Southerner would never survive winter in Wisconsin, but you are dead wrong about grits! Cheese grits are a slice of Heaven here on Earth. Cream of wheat, on the other hand, BLECH. ;)

I spent many weekends with my New Hampshire native grandparents eating cream of wheat for breakfast and loved it! A little brown sugar, butter or milk if you want, and it's all good! But I have to agree with you on the cheese grits as well, I thought they were a great addition to real fried chicken. :)
