Em's (DD's) HS team had a Junior pitcher that was much better, in everyone's opinion, than the Senior Pitcher, other than the newly minted HC and her father who happened to be the SB Booster club President. Towards the end of the year, after riding the Senior all year long and watching her go from the high 50's with good movement down to the low 50's and no movement, she went to the HC and asked for a start or even a couple of innings to give the Senior a break and to work with my DD (starting catcher) in game situations. She was told, "You're not good enough to ever be the starting pitcher on this team."

Since then, she transferred HS and went on to sign her NLI at a mid-major D1 as a pitcher, set the HR record for her conference as well as setting the strikeout record in it. They also had a field of 8 Senior TB players and could have made a real run at States.

Meanwhile, the Senior pitcher never got one offer from a college and they were stuck with a Freshman rec-ball pitcher that had no business being in a V HS circle. The team went 2-26 last season. Thankfully, DD decided not to play last year.

Do you think the HS HC batted an eye? Nope.

That is what one calls “The last laugh”

Did you ever consider transferring to another high school? I know some state associations have rules that restrict that, but an option.

I hate to see these threads :(
Kids work so hard and then face challenges in school ball that are outside of their control.
My DD is a freshman pitcher and has been working with her HS team since the fall. Yesterday at an inter-squad scrimmage she had two at bats and hit a double in the gap and a triple off the wall.
Coach said to her "wow I didn't know you could hit".
He didn't even look at her bat all this time. Unreal.

I disagree with quitting. We have been through bad teams and bad coaches, pitching behind others because of favorites. She has come out a stronger person and player by keeping her head up and working through the problem.

Sorry to hear this. I do however have a couple of questions. How does pitching on JV destroy her arm? At DDs HS they only play two games a week (Tuesday & Thursdays) and JV is not eligible for playoffs. Should be manageable for any travel ball type player. Has she talked to the coach to ask her why she wants her to play JV? My sophomore DD made V this year and is not playing at all and I'm starting to think that she would have been better off on JV because she would be #1 pitcher and bat top 4 in the line-up every game, especially now that she doesn't play TB, she needs the reps to stay in game ready condition.

It's very unfortunate that so much of this seems to happen with high school sports. My DD is currently a senior in high school, and that is honestly the only reason she is playing for the high school this year. The politics and drama have been so disgusting her first three years, that I don't think she would bother sticking it out if this wasn't the final season. Best of luck to your DD moving forward. I have to admit that I am envious of the parents out there that have had a positive experience with high school sports.

I used to think that quitting was never an option but seeing what goes on it may not be a non starter. Issue is that there is a huge difference from school to school. No offense but people on here run everything through their own school filter. What they saw in their own school.
Some crazy stuff goes on in school ball.
I think most of us on here agree about Travel Ball... Most programs run in a mostly similar way.. HS ball is a different animal.

My DD is a very good freshman pitcher who could make most all Varsity HS's in our area.. but there are a few in the state that she would have zero chance at making. Many factors combine that effect the decision.

What I believe is that when emotion goes UP intelligence goes DOWN.
