My DD’s goal is to play varsity as a freshman. She is excited, more so than me, about next year.

My DD earned the #1 pitching spot as a freshman this year over a senior. It can be done but not without a ton of work and some drama. The senior just quit after the second game.

Congrats. If my DD makes varsity it will be for her bat and fielding. I think she’s a year or two off from varsity pitcher but who knows.

Just won her 4th game of the season. Team's 4-0. She's pitched all but one inning in all games. The other two pitchers are brought up from JV (one each day). They won't speak to my DD at school... One was a Best Friend. I told DD this is a great lesson in life and understand how you feel that they don't speak with you. Never ever treat anyone like that.

What your DD needs to understand is those girls are not true friends. While there is no "I" in team they sound like they use the "M&E" a lot. Tell her to keep working her backside off and stay #1. It's kinds like the old pointing to the scoreboard. If they had put in the work your DD did, they could be there too.

How do the older girls on the varsity team treat your DD? I'm sure they love having a pitcher who puts them in a position to win games.

You nailed it!

DD said to me the older girls love me. And that coming from DD is huge. She is very humble and I was shocked to hear her use the word love. But you're right!!

It sounds like you have a the uncommon HS coach who will put the best players on the field and who doesn't believe in the senior trumping talent nonsense. Good for your DD. But she needs to remember. If another pitcher who the coach feels is stronger comes along, she will play. Just another thing to help keep her motivated. Tell her to never think she has the hounds out ran and stop looking behind her.

Good advice!
She took her first loss today 5-3 to a very good team and rival. It was a hard game.. Only one bad inning and for the first time our team didn't hit well. She's 4-1, not too bad in our pretty tough conference.
Let's see how they bounce back.
