I was curious to see how many people would or have moved because of kids sports.

I've been asked several times if we've considered doing this for the athletic advantages this could give my DD.

That is huge commitment. We did the 1.5 hours 3 times a week thing. Takes a toll on everyone for sure.
I think my kid did more school work in the back of the car than at home or school combined for that 2 years.

Fortunately our team only practices once a week on the weekend. We do other stuff on our own locally during the week.

I would move. In my area HS sports are still pretty important. Had we had a bad situation for my dd and another school had better athletics and an equal to or better academic reputation, we would have made the switch. Four years of my dd's life wrt HS was pretty important. Thankfully, we didn't have to make that choice as I taught in the school she attended and our sports teams, including softball, have done really well. I know a lot of parents who have made that move and can't think of any that have regretted it.

I work from home and we can live anywhere in the world, moving because of softball has never been mentioned. All 4 of her grandparents come to some of her games, DD can draw a crowd. There is almost always 1 or 2 of them at her games not to mention sister in-laws family and sisters family. My mother sits in her car with the heater going if it is too cold, not sure she can even see the game.

Men's sports are a lot different, there might be a sports career after school.

Where is DD going in any sport after college?

(This is an un timely post. Shoveling snow with sub zero wind chill, I vote for moving to improve DD's softball career.)

We’ve had girls move and apply for transfers before they enter HS to play for our softball team. There are a couple more schools in the area that pull girls in for softball too. We moved back to the community I grew up in before DD started middle school. Softball wasn’t the only reason, but was part of the decision.

I am not sure what they are but Illinois has some rules about trying to move HS in state, if we lived a block over DD would play for different HS, if we did move that block I am not sure DD would be able to play her 1st year.

If you can prove your change in residence within a different school district, you are fine. Our school now requires all new students to provide evidence of their residence. For example, a power bill, new license with address on it, ...
