Common thing here in Cali. Just move on........

California isn't considered normal by the rest of the US.

Spent last week in San Francisco. Seemed like every time I was out on the street I was either dodging Teslas trying to run me over, or trying not to step on homeless junkies shooting up.
Or is SoCal a different kind of weird?

LA is more like that too. Here in San Bernardino/Riverside County not like that at all.

San Francisco isn't considered normal by the rest of CA. Please don't judge all of CA by what you experienced in SF. There are pockets of weirdness (different than SF) in So Cal, but So Cal is primarily suburban sprawl.

If there is one thing I've learned, softball is a small world.

And if there is one thing I've learned about softball dad coaches is that they are going to look after their kid first and foremost. If that means busting up a team so their kid can get into what they consider to be a better situation(ie strong org with name recognition), then they are going to do it. The best decision we've made yet softball wise is for my daughter to get on a team where the HC doesn't have a daughter on the team. It makes a lot of issues go away.

At the youth TB level, the ONLY true loyalty is a parent to what they think is best for their kid.

It's very unfortunate that things like this happen. Personally, I am now entering my 7th season as a dad coach and have not had any issues to speak of. We have had a very successful run. That said, I have friends in other organizations that have had the 'dad coach issues' we often read about on these sites. They are real, and I get it. But what i find ironic is that many of these 'non dad coach' parents pull the exact same stunts. But I guess since they are not coaches, they can simply do whatever they want and not worry about who it hurts in the process. Damn the torpedoes...
