My takeaway wasn't so much that the team broke up or even that the break up was communicated by text (neither of which are great, but not necessarily terrible either), but rather that the coaches all made sure that their daughters had already found new teams before letting the rest of the team know about the breakup. That's the real shame in this.

This is one of the reasons that I encourage my DD to guest play with teams. DD is in one of the premier organizations in our area and when we joined I told HC that DD would from time to time guest play with teams.
He didn't like it but I made it clear that we would only play if the team had nothing going on that day and only to help a team that was in true need.
There are major benefits to guest playing... In this example DD would have a team to pick right up with.

This happened to us a couple years ago. In the end we ended up in a better situation, but it was tumultuous for a couple months. We scrambled to find a team and ended up on one that was not a good fit. By the time we got to our third team of that year, we were glad that it worked out the way it had.

This is a big drawback to having a single team that is not under an organization umbrella. If this happened in a larger organization, the board of directors would find a coach to continue the team.
Both large organizations and single teams have their respective pros and cons.

All my pitchers guest with a vengeance. Everyone can always use a quality arm. It is all about the reps. :)

Except for this weekend apparently :) .... Just kidding! I know they were all busy already :)

Totally agree. My DD has a stable of teams who are thrilled to have her when her team isn't playing. Other teams are not so happy when DD turns up...

Exactly! My DD is a pitcher and Reps are key. Guest playing gives her a chance to see different competition at zero risk.

10U and the team was in a large organization. What a great examples they set for their young daughters!

We weren't happy with the team or the organization to begin with, so it's really a blessing in disguise. That organization took about $100 per player per season and we never got anything out of it. Not even assistance to find practice fields.

DD is now on a new team with a very good organization where the HC is seasoned (not dad-coach) and the assistant coaches know what they are doing. DD loves going to practice again. She was all smile after last practice and couldn't stop telling us all the new things she's learning. Funny thing is other parents on this new team has already heard about the breakup via text message from their friends. Words do travel fast.
