Have them move up, probably playing too deep.
It's not that, or not usually. Our little first year 12U girls just aren't as fast as the second year girls yet. We just played our 2nd tournament in 12U; they'll get there.

Thanks for the responses. Some of the bigger kids can hit well so I guess that is why they picked them. No infield hits for this team though. The defense is very questionable however. The kids just can't get to routine plays.
My DD subbed on a top tier soccer team last night. It was speed vs. speed in that game. I guess that answered my question as to where the fast kids are.
After the soccer game, she announced soccer is her favorite sport. Softball was always #1 before. In rec, she pitched, played 1B and SS so she had plenty of action. In TB, she has played mostly LF. I hope she doesn't get bored with softball.
She played that too, but didn't like it and I can't say I was sorry.
I just don't enjoy watching it. It's very noisy and intense. Squeaking shoes, uncomfortable gym. I like being outside better.
Why the hate for basketball?
Never like basketball as a kid. They always tried to get me to play. I was always the tallest kid in the class.
As an adult the one reason I've grown to hate basketball for softball players can be summed up in three letters. ACL. I've seen more softball players loose seasons and college scholarship opportunities due to torn ACL injuries suffered playing basketball than I can remember. I'll see a girl at a tournament with a leg brace on and crutches. I'll point to it and ask them a one-word question. Basketball? Many times the answer is yes.
My reason to dislike basketball...DD broke her finger player playing PE basketball at school. Twice.
