Thanks for the responses. Some of the bigger kids can hit well so I guess that is why they picked them. No infield hits for this team though. The defense is very questionable however. The kids just can't get to routine plays.

My DD subbed on a top tier soccer team last night. It was speed vs. speed in that game. I guess that answered my question as to where the fast kids are.

After the soccer game, she announced soccer is her favorite sport. Softball was always #1 before. In rec, she pitched, played 1B and SS so she had plenty of action. In TB, she has played mostly LF. I hope she doesn't get bored with softball.

We dragged ours kicking and screaming into a rec soccer program this fall. She's almost through now. She tried really hard to hate it just to spite us, but couldn't pull it off. By week two she was asking us to practice with her all the time. Softball is still her main love for now but soccer has been the first time we've been able to really get her interested in another sport. Better soccer than basketball. She played that too, but didn't like it and I can't say I was sorry.

Why the hate for basketball? I loved basketball as much as baseball growing up one of the main reasons was that it perfectly suited to my
obsessive compulsive attitudes towards practice. It is the one sport (ball sport at least) where you can improve your game a great deal
without the need for anybody else to play with. I loved the solitude of working on your own, just you, a ball and a hoop....
Sorry...reminiscing about the days I wasn't behind a desk all day

I just don't enjoy watching it. It's very noisy and intense. Squeaking shoes, uncomfortable gym. I like being outside better.

Those are actually pretty good reasons :) I guess I just grew watching it so those things didn't bother me but I can see how they would.

Why the hate for basketball?

Never like basketball as a kid. They always tried to get me to play. I was always the tallest kid in the class.

As an adult the one reason I've grown to hate basketball for softball players can be summed up in three letters. ACL. I've seen more softball players loose seasons and college scholarship opportunities due to torn ACL injuries suffered playing basketball than I can remember. I'll see a girl at a tournament with a leg brace on and crutches. I'll point to it and ask them a one-word question. Basketball? Many times the answer is yes.

I quit basketball my Sophomore year in HS so I could concentrate on baseball..shortly thereafter I tore my ACL playing baseball..:)

My reason to dislike basketball...DD broke her finger player playing PE basketball at school. Twice.

I think I created a monster...everyone forget I asked the question :p

I actually broke my finger playing basketball too....ok to be perfectly honest
it wasn't actually playing basketball but instead from punching another kid in the mouth during a basketball game
