My report: DD seems to be really thriving well in college atmosphere. She has told me that she has surprised herself at her tenacity and drive to push herself in workouts and practice. She texted me yesterday excited about running a 7:40 mile (fastest on team by one second and her PR is 8:12, I think). Hearing her excitement to practice/workout on her own is very refreshing to hear - has to be something to do with having live-in softball players to workout with! On the school front, she seems to be doing well so far - won't know until midterms or end of semester, I guess. She did say that she seems to be only player with harder classes, and that everyone else has easy classes (aka very little homework)...and that when everyone chimes in to go out somewhere, she has to stay behind because of homework. She has her eye on the prize for now (as a reminder, she's in JuCo) - let's hope she keeps her eye on that prize through next year. :)

I hope all the other freshmen are having the same experience - it definitely alleviates any stress of wondering how they are doing.

DD is doing well. I think attending the second session of summer school really helped her adjust to college life without as much pressure as there would be starting in the fall. So far, so good on classes, DD got an 'A' in the only class she took this summer. Conditioning has been tough and DD is convinced the trainers are trying to kill them. Had their first official practice last Saturday and they have an internal scrimmage this Saturday. First game in program history is Sept 30th and we are all going up for the ribbon cutting ceremony and the game.

I believe the game on Sept 30th will be on the WatchESPN app - ACC Network.

So far so good for my daughter (DIII). College workload is a bit of an adjustment, but she says she feels well prepared. So far, the few quiz grades seem to support that. She's loving the softball side, working hard on and off the field. Pretty sore from the intensity of strength and condition workouts, but even that is starting to feel better. Played a couple of internal scrimmages, feels very comfortable and well placed. Great set of teammates, intense but fair coaches, new friends, etc. All good 3 weeks in.

4.5 weeks in. DD says that conditioning and weights are tough but doable. The coaches are making changes to her hitting but she says that it's "a work in progress". The team size is a lot larger than we had been lead to believe it would be. Which is a bummer but what can you do? They've been working with her on her secondary position( 3rd base). She's a catcher at heart so is a little worried. We talked about field time vs bench time and if she gets concerned to talk to the coaches. School work is going good. DD is in some harder classes so I get the "Can't talk now have to much homework" reply text a lot.

DD is thriving although tired most of the time...lol. I can't say I didn't warn her nor can she. She loves the college life, her softball practices/conditioning/weightlifting as well as her classes. She seems to be adjusting well. As for softball related news, in BP she put 5 over the fence the other day, the only player on the team to hit one over during practices so far and she is likely to supplant the two Junior catchers behind the plate as the starting catcher. This is a huge deal as far as we and her are concerned. Due to a last minute change in her desired area of study, much to our chagrin, she bypassed all of the collegiate AS offers and went to a D2 college that didn't even know who she was until she made an unofficial visit to the college and introduced herself to the HC the end of her Senior year. Of course, by the time she introduced herself and the HC did his due diligence, all athletic money was gone although he did make a spot on the team for her and told us that if she did as well as he expected her to do, he'd throw some money at her next year:)

DD just finished her second week at school, classes start Monday (NAIA school). Loves loves LOVES her teammates and coaches. She has been getting up and lifting with her team every morning and then practicing each afternoon. DD has been hitting her usual BOMBs at practice so she has been getting lots of ooos and aaahs. Her school encourages student athletes to support each other so she and her team have been attending/working the soccer and volleyball games. Freshman orientation has been this week. She met with her academic adviser and found out that all of her dual credit classes that she took in HS will transfer so that is great.

It has always been her goal to go to college in Washington state. I miss her like crazy but it helps so much for both of us that she has a softball family at school. Looking forward to driving the 8.5 hours next month to see her and watch her play ball!
