Mine is up 5 times a week at 5 a.m. to go to weightlifting. She texts us when she is. I guess misery loves company since we're up by then to go to work:rolleyes:

DD's coaches dislike mornings so instead, the team has classes in mornings, and open field/crossfit workouts 2 days/week and then open field/lift the other three days. I think they spent a good 4-6 hours together in the afternoons either on the field or working out in gym (crossfit or weights). My girl is coming home today (she's only 2 hours away) - she's hoping to get home in time to visit her HS coach to thank her for preparing her for the workouts. A lot of the girls are struggling, but she's not because she's been through the wringer with her HS coach. :)

My report: DD seems to be really thriving well in college atmosphere. She has told me that she has surprised herself at her tenacity and drive to push herself in workouts and practice. She texted me yesterday excited about running a 7:40 mile (fastest on team by one second and her PR is 8:12, I think). Hearing her excitement to practice/workout on her own is very refreshing to hear - has to be something to do with having live-in softball players to workout with! On the school front, she seems to be doing well so far - won't know until midterms or end of semester, I guess. She did say that she seems to be only player with harder classes, and that everyone else has easy classes (aka very little homework)...and that when everyone chimes in to go out somewhere, she has to stay behind because of homework. She has her eye on the prize for now (as a reminder, she's in JuCo) - let's hope she keeps her eye on that prize through next year. :)

I hope all the other freshmen are having the same experience - it definitely alleviates any stress of wondering how they are doing.

Thats a good time, I had 6 girls under 8:00 min the first day this fall conditioning. I'm hoping by January they can all be under 7:40 . Granted this is high school, 2-7th, 2-9th, and 1-11th and 1-12th, We at least hope to be fast.

Am I the only parent who gets a response of "good" or "fine" when I ask my DD how workouts or practice went? I am looking for details and am jonesing for some softball and all I get is a one word response...just dayum!

Not here.
My DD is a Sophomore and getting info is like pulling teeth. I can understand sorta...after practice is over 6:30ish DD has got to eat, shower, study and socialize. So, I'm guessing mom and dad are low priority. I'm guessing it's like when the wife ask me how work was....fine honey.

Very similar experience!

I gotta tell you, mine got politically correct really quick last year. It's like she thinks she is on national tv or something. She also is a sophomore and has loosened up a little this year.

I'm only getting some details because she is absolutely thriving and proud of it. However, I will ante this up one - they won't be playing any softball this fall!!! They are only doing inner team scrimmages, workouts and practices!!! Every time I talk to DD - I ask "So - are you sure y'all are not playing anyone this fall?" "No, mom, I already told you!" I am going through serious withdrawals and find myself lingering on youtube watching other softball games. This is torture.

On the flip side, I am jonesing for their spring schedule so I can put in my time off (for time I reserved just for fall ball - so glad some of it rolls over)!! LOL

DD says she's tired, but having a great time and adjusting well. They had their first fall games last week started at 3 rd and batted 3 rd. First college at bat against Charlotte hit a RBI double to left center. Played good in the field and hit well. That made the 4 and a half hour drive worth it. I would have been fine with a 0 for whatever I just wanted to see her pretty face and get a Hug. I think it's harder on us parents when they are at school. The good thing is her high school AP and Duel enrollement classes transferred so she is a freshman eligibility wise but a sophomore academically. I'm ready for next weekend get to watch some more games. Good luck to everyone's daughters.

Right Here For Now
Update: DD has injured her throwing shoulder when she tried to wrongly side-arm a ball to first on a snap. She's in a sling and is unable to play their first scrimmage but was tentatively cleared to play their 2nd one only to miss a step on the way down her stairs from the dorm last night to meet her new beau and rolled her ankle. She has bruised bones and is now out for the second game as well. I swear, if I wasn't so level-headed most, and I mean most of the time, since I'm not ALWAYS level headed, I'd go up there and we'd be visiting the local ER to remove my size 10 shoe from her A$$.

DD 1 is a sophomore now. Hasn't played a game of softball in over 4 years, but loving life.

DD 1 is going through UW Madison on a full scholarship, but we pay for her room and board. She spent freshman year in a dorm, rooming with a girl she's known since elementary school. Now the two of them, and a young lady from Illinois, are sharing an apartment together. Very small, but nice. All 3 are sophomore pre-meds, so they study hard. All the time. Last time I came to help DD 1 carry some stuff up, there were notes on sterochemisty on the kitchen table, and various substituted Benzene compounds written on a white board in the living room.

One of DD 1's roommates was born in India, from a Tibetan refugee family. Some of the family still lives in India, so the two of them spent the summer in India volunteering at a Tibetan medical clinic in the foothills of the Himalayas. They had a blast.

So, there is life after softball, I suppose.

DD 1 was probably the most athletic of my kids. Two of her siblings (my DS and my DD 3) are very into sports, but DD 1 hates organized sports. She does work out on her own, and goes running a lot. Some coaches said she might've had enough talent to play softball for a lesser D-I school, but DD 1 quit playing. She said the only thing she liked about softball was stealing bases.
