Any time you are in the top 9 it doesn't matter where you bat. We played a tournament a couple of years ago where both 9th hitters hit grand slams in the same game. If you are playing a decent A team they have 9 very good hitters.

Agreed. I have always preferred to use a hitter with some speed and good OBP in the last spot. A few times, it's been a former #1 or #2 who is struggling a little. The reduced "pressure" of a low spot in the lineup can sometimes be helpful for finding their groove again.

A lot of the teams my DDs have played on have done this. Sometimes the fastest girl on the team batted the last spot. That way if she got on base, with the best hitters coming up, it could be the start of a rally.

Tell me if I'm reading to much into this. DD is attending a tournament for the sake of trying out for a team. Two games in and she is 'slotted' last in the batting lineup. If you bring a kid in to look at them wouldn't you want them to get several plate appearances so that you can get a better idea if they can hit?

Yea because the established players in the team that have been working their butts off rreally appreciate bringing in a guest player and putting them in the #4 spot! Last spot is where they belong sorry to sound harsh but I have a pet peeve when orgs are more interested in recruiting players than growing and keeping the talent they do have...

If my kid is playing as a guest my expectation is she will bat last. If she doesnt I would be questioning the integrity of the coach and org specially if its her first guest appearance on that team...

Exactly....why should a guest player play in front of my DD who has been on team...paid fees...and been to team practices working hard.

I would start guest player at bottom of order for a couple reasons.

1. See how she responds to being put there
2. See how parents respond when DD is put there

Both will tell alot about what you might be getting into with this player if you decide to pursue them.

IMO parents who complain about where their kid is batting typically are worried more about "how it looks" to the outside world when their kid is batting at the bottom of the order. However anybody
whose opinion is worth anything will know a good hitter when they see one so that shouldn't be a concern.
