DW made my day... bought me a lynkspyder. So here's the next question... is a stand-alone camera (Go-Pro ?) going to produce a better picture quality than the iPhone 6 that I have? I assume I will need the cell phone nearby for the internet signal anyway.

Congrats on your purchase of a LynkSpyder. Great product!

Yes

The Gopro will produce better pics, however at close up shots the iphone may be a better choice. I love my gopro and use it a lot. IF you take a pic with the go pro you can always crop it and clean it up with a filter later. Experiment with both. Also with the gopro app you can always "grab a photo" off a video clip.

Back on the dirt...
Ive been really timid about setting my phone on a back stop, even with the LynkSpyder. Ive had 2 GoPro's get wrecked from foul balls. It would be easier to broadcast from my phone but I'm not risking it!

Ive used a lot of cameras and even own the expensive gopro but I now use these

Cheap, easy to setup and use on lynkspyder, take a beating even in some rain. They have an HDversion too.

The playback is very good. Good enough that we upload games from this for college coaches to view.

Get a little tool bag like the lynkspyder page recommends with a $20 battery pack and your set for many many games.

And an sd card of course.

you do know you're supposed to put the gopro behind the fence?

Lol. It was both times. One hit so hard it smashed one of hooks of the LynkSpyder closed. Had to get a screwdriver to pry it open .

The first camera was damaged from multiple hits. The connector where the charging cord goes in the camera was knocked loose inside.

You guys are joking about putting the camera behind the fence, but not everyone does it that way. I was setting my own camera up on the (relatively safe) backside of the backstop this summer while an opposing team parent was using a flexible tripod to secure his inside the backstop. He was a nice guy. He crossed his fingers, smiled and said, "it hasn't been hit yet." It reminded me of the guy falling from a tall building: "So far, so good."

Wow....I'm trying to envision what bad luck would cause that. We record a local collegiate team and have been hit head on several times. Never come close to the damage you are talking about; and never lost a camera. Did you drink Jobu's rum?

We've had the GoPro's lens cover knocked off by a foul ball, and had the positioning slightly altered when the screws weren't tight enough (which was probably lucky - it was moved instead of breaking I imagine). We always set up on the right side of the fence (OUTSIDE the field). Never had one break (knock on wood) but I do worry about it.
