Is it just my neck of the woods or are you still seeing postings for tryouts in your area? It seems as if every team is still looking for 1-3 players----especially pitchers. Almost seems like the smart thing to do is to sit back and wait for the after tryouts.

Our tryouts are Saturday. I think our org set it up to where the bigger orgs did theirs first (majority were last week) so they wouldn't have to compete with them.

In So Cal, TB tryouts have been going on since the first weekend of August. Since we were still playing our final tournament the week previous, we pushed our first tryout back to the 20th to give kids (and parents) a break. A majority of teams opened the games last weekend.

I think this has always been the case but the movement to Facebook groups has made this more visible. If you are a pitcher of any worth you can pick your team at the older levels.

The first tryouts that I noticed going on started on July 18th (did not attend those tryouts). There is still tryouts going on this week. Yes, for some it has been a very long tryout season.

In our area if you want to have a decent amount of girls show up at your tryouts you better have them start early, meaning your tryout better have started before August otherwise you may not get a team at all. That only goes for the younger ages, 10u, and 12u. The season is over in most cases for the younger teams before the last week of July. There were some very good A level softball organizations that held there 10u tryouts around August 8th-10thish. Tryout numbers were very low at those organizations tryouts, I am talking 6 or 7 girls showed up. Then there were some low level B level teams that held there tryouts the last week of July and they had 25-30 girls show up to those. It might be there are just not enough girls and parents that want an A level schedule and commitment at 10u.

At the older ages it is a different ball game, a significant portion of the good players are playing at nationals. The older teams can have there tryouts start in August without being affected in terms of numbers. I also agree that the better teams at the older age levels have had there eye on particular players well before tryouts have even started. There is most likely a limited number of positions available.

Most tryouts around here were last week. Now everybody is “Looking for a #1 P, C and SS to an already very strong group of girls”.

Seeing a lot of that myself. ;) Maybe not looking for all three of those positions but there does seem to be a lot of teams looking for a pitcher or catcher.

We went to a tryout last weekend and I was excited because there were only six girls there (other than current team members). Then I realized that 5 of the 6 were catchers. Womp, womp. There seem to be 1000 14U catchers in Atlanta and we're seeing them all. Supply seems to exceed demand on the A level here anyway. Pitchers are another story.

I think most teams around here wrapped up their tryouts last weekend. As mentioned above, a few are still looking for P, C, & SS. I think DD's team is set, and the org/parents meeting is tomorrow night with the first team practice Sunday.
