Curious if any other DFP folks are going to be in Baton Rouge with their DD this weekend? https://www.select30fastpitch.com/

DD's last year of eligibility for this USSSA 14U stuff (played 2 weeks ago in the Futures All American games at ESPN/Wide World of Sports. The event itself could have been run better but the girls overall (at least on her team) came together well and showed some skills. Weather impacted some events and games.

I've never been to Louisiana and am looking forward to sampling some Cajun foods and seeing some good ball. Players get a couple tix to the NPF Championship games so that should be fun. Staying within walking distance to LSU and hoping the weather cooperates so we can tour and get all the practice/games in!

I don't think that the select 30 stops at 14, the elite select does though. Good Luck

The Select 30 Camp goes by grad year, the Futures All American Games stops at 14U.

Thanks, DD made it all the way and got the S30 Championship ring and a chance to play with some serious;y talented athletes. Good stuff...I'm still recovering.

We went. Made it to Sunday, got the helmet/batting gloves/bat package which is awesome...and the ring, lol. Read some complaining on other message boards that it's a money grab, that there weren't any college coaches, that it's all a racket, blah blah blah. Here's my rebuttal:

1. when this was scheduled the new recruiting calendar rules were not in place. There were college coaches planning to come from major schools.
2. no one is forcing you to pay.
3. what this does is introduce your kid to the better talent out there in a more intimate setting, both on a competition level and a camaraderie level. Some of them are girls on "rival" organizations where some tension can build up, but then they get to know them and things are so bad. My kid experienced exactly that, there were a few players from a competing orgs and she hung out with them all weekend and they hugged at the end of the weekend. Never would have expected that after some of the battles we've had in the past. Even went to dinner one night with one of the other girls and her family.
4. they know they are being measured and watched by evaluators, so it helps with their nerves. There is a sense of pressure. Good or bad, they need to learn to deal with it. And then when they are playing in front of college coaches at big showcases they aren't nervous.

It was hot. It costs us some money and some lost sleep. Did I mention it was hot? The humidity was awful. But we're glad we went.
